You will have to pull the cover and look for a clutch pack in the carrier
assembly along with the spider gears. You have to pull the cover to change
the fluid anyway. If you can see something that looks like disks inside, it
has posi. The posi additive is a special additive needed to properly
lubricate the friction plates in the posi unit itself. Check with you parts
supplier for it.

both 10- and 12-bolt rear ends as well as "open" (or non-posi rear ends)
and was optional in most cases.  Yes, there is a special Positraction
gear lube for them that's different from the open rear ends; they even
came from the factory with a silver or red tag (depends on year) either
attached to the differential cover or the fill plug itself stating it
was a Positraction and to use the special gear lube.
