Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Oh I have fun out of those guys though, its just a fun place to work. My more favorable thing to do is terrorize the clueless customers. A few days ago I had a guy come in and say he needed a water pump for a car, I asked him what type and he just looks at me dead serious and goes a red one (may I make note that I get this kind of stuff all day, people go "I need a thermostat for a Cheverlet" when I aske them what type they just say "Truck" not 1500, not 1/2 ton, and I basically have to play Jepordy to get an engine size out of them, so needless to say I was fed up with people that day) so I get on my computer and act like I am looking up a water pump for a red car, and I type and mash keys and smack the computer a few times. Finally I look up and shake my head and say, "I'm sorry." the guy says, "Whats wrong?" I say, "I'm all out for a red car, I've got one for a blue one though." This poor fool looks at me and says, "Well when will you get one in?" (remember he is honestly thinking that this is for his red car) And I start smiling I just told him take it easy, I was just fooling him, it turned out he had a Saturn, which I still think its funny. I know it was mean preying on anothers ignorance but you got to admitt it was funny. I have even gotten phone calls before asking if I sold video cassete head cleaners before, I mean its just nuts about how people can be at times. In my book if I don't learn something new that day I 1) didn't do anything at all that day or 2) didn't listen to what I heard. Everyday I get a day older the old man (dad) gets a day smarter. Larry

So when those guys fighting the age thing get the chance they strike back they try in a suttle form or way. If we catch you in a practical joke like the corvette part lookup. It would be a way of saying damn was I that foolish and unknowing when I was young like Josh. Probably, but hell Im not going to ever tell Josh that. Hehheehe... in my book if you stop learning something new you are boring and most likely dead. Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Why is the old guys always like to pick on me? When I first started at my job (If I haven't told you guys I am now an official part time AutoZoner) the old guy (I call him Pops, Granpa, Ol' Man, whatever pops out of my mouth, known him for quite awhile he has always helped out when I would come in to the stores he has worked at, BTW he's only about 50) dialed the shops number and let it ring, he picked up the phone and did a "Yeah, uh huh, um hmm, Ok, hang on just a sec." So stupid me gets on the computer and I look and look and look, guess what everybody was doing while I was looking? Laughing. Finally I gave up and said I couldn't find anything for an 83 vette, and for good reason, they didn't make one!!! I didn't take your joke to heart, I just wanted to make myself clear, I have a lot of fun out of you guys too, thats why I like this list, its just flat out fun. BTW I do run HEI on my car, but I'm thinking of going ahead and switching out the distributer since its' origins are questionable. RE: [Chevelle-List] Spit and sputter
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Josh, I had something similar happen to me a number of years ago. It felt like it lost fire at about 115 for just a second. I was running a points distributor at the time, so I checked the input voltage on the positive coil terminal. I don't remember what the voltage should be, but 3.5 volts was way too low. I swapped in an HEI distributor and changed the power lead to provide full voltage to the distributor and it never happened again. BTW, This happened at two in the morning on an interstate. The blue flash from the exhaust pipes when fire returned must have looked wild from the rear. It just started happening in the past few months, I don't know exactly when it started but it didn't do it last time I was where I was. What I mean (and I know I will hear a bunch of bs about I shouldn't have been flying low in the first place, but its not like the car wasn't built to go fast in the first place) anyway a few days ago I was feeling froggy and I was on a good long stretch of four lane with nobody out (I will stress this one) so I thought 'what the heck you haven't ran her up to triple digits in awhile so why not?' so I mashed the pedal to the floor and away I went. As soon as she hit 105 she stuttered, almost like either 1. I wasn't getting enough gas or 2. wasn't getting fire or 3. the valves were wanting to float (maybe the springs lost tension? This car is good for 120). I am just curious I haven't run the car like that in a long while as a matter of fact this was the first time this year it broke 100, but my girlfriends Dad did do a little work to the carb when I had that little electrical fire. So I think possibly it may have been that the carb was tuned down a little (I am getting really good mileage out of that booger right now) but I just wanted to see what you gurus think about it. Re: [Chevelle-List] Spit and sputter
Josh: does it feel like a lack of fuel? Maybe you have a weak fuel pump? Larry
RE: [Chevelle-List] Spit and sputter
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Well first off the carb is basically new (a little over a year old) its an Edlebrock 750 with mechanical secondaries. So that rules out that and as Rocky said it rules out especially at WOT. And I assure you Rocky that its not bs about being at WOT (and no as I mentioned before nobody was around so I wasn't racing, I quit that when I graduated high school, I'm just an authority now by the new young crowd) it just seems to me every time I mention something like this on the list I get a bunch of stuff back saying I shouldn't do this or that. Thats all I meant. I was just curious as to what you guys might think about what it could possibly be seeing as how most of the time the answers or ideas I get from you guys actually turn out to be right on. Well thanks for any ideas, I'm still thinking possibly it could be either the valve springs or just the carbs current tuning.
