Tom's right, it is part of a wagon's fold-down rear seat. When I was in California last year I saw several El's with the forward portion of the bed made into a trap door, but not with these things. You folks with El Camino's already have all that you need to make the conversion(except some screws and a pair of hinges). I also saw one El with the back window and bulkhead cut out and a station wagon back seat installed rumble-seat style for the kids or mother-in-law. It kind a looks like the back side of a fold down seat for a station wagon.
