Re: [Chevelle-List] large tube headers
Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking this is something I'm only going to want to do once and from what I've heard it's easier to do while doing the engine swap :) So, I'll probably go ahead and seel these super comps. Re: [Chevelle-List] large tube headers
I haven't asked yet, but I'd imagine they'd recommend smaller headers also since everyone else seems to. The cam lift is .525 i/e, L-98 corvette heads, performer manifold, if that sways anyone's opinion. Looks like most of the replies confirm what I've been told. Don't mess with the large tubes and just go buy a pair of small tube headers. Thanks guys! Rodney. 71 Chevelle El Mirage, AZ - Original Message - From: "Craig A. Re: [Chevelle-List] large tube headers
Hey Rodney. I put on a set of HSC 1 7/8" headers on my 408sbc. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why my timeslips when south. I recently swapped in a set of 1 5/8 Dynomax headers, and picked up 0.2 (yes 2 tenths) in the 1/8th mile!!! No other change, just the header swap made a big difference. Get the smaller tube headers, and sell the ones you have. Don't make the same mistake. :-) good luck, "Rodney." wrote: > I picked up some Hooker Super Comps from Frank on this list a couple years > ago... at the time I didn't realize there were large tube and small tube > headers. RE: [Chevelle-List] large tube headers
To the best of my understanding, the size of the tube is driven by the cam profile and head design. What does the motor builder recommend? -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Rodney. Anyways, I'm getting ready to do an engine swap and I now realize I have large tube headers. Everything I've read says that small tube headers are the way to go. What are the effects of having too big of headers? I'm just wondering becuase I got such a good deal on these headers, I'd hate to not be able to use them, but at the same time if they're going to cause a lot of problems I don't want that either. I'm looking at putting in a 375 horse crate engine with 400 something ft. lb. of torque. Is this enough power to use the large tube headers without problem? This will be a daily driver. The heads are L-98 corvette heads if that makes a difference.
