RE: [Chevelle-list] Exhaust question

2003-07-30 Thread Mark Weber

I ordered a flow master kit, the one without
the mufflers. Fit and finish and materials were very nice. I
don't like the flowmaster mufflers Ieventually put on (personal
preference), but the tube kit wasgood.

No recording and I can't remember! The x pipe does not sound like duals -
it's smoother and sounds like the engine is running at a higher rpm at all
speeds than duals. Probably sounds best with a manual trans.

It just doesnt roar like a flowmaster exhaust does.
 any ideas?

I don't think the Turbo style mufflers will get any deeper, just older and
never sound like Flowmasters. Check
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/web10/pages33-34.pdf for their mufflers
and/or the American Thunder kit which is the entire exhaust - although you
will have to modify it for stock exhaust as they're designed to
cut-to-length-fit headers.

I used doug thorley header on my 72 (same/similar to 70 ) and had minimal problems.
The place I bought them from, sent me a welded bracket for the A/C. It is much more
sturdy than the bent sheet metal brackets that you can buy at almost any parts store.
Its been many years, but at that time I called thorley they gave me the name of a
distributor. Now summit or jegs or both sell thorley. They have reasonable prices on
all headers.

Also I know someone who swears by Dynomax headers for a 70. In summit, there ceramic
coated headers (the ONLY way to go IMHO) for about $215.00 Last month I got a set
for my camaro. Also check dynomax.com for rebate info.
