With *anybody* I'd recommend using either the Ebay escrow service that
YOU go to from the Ebay site, not one they send you that *looks* like an Ebay
site... it usually isn't.  Or, use an escrow service your banker
recommends.  The world is full of scammers and they all have a "reliable,
professional" escrow service for you to use.

through here, it is in Idaho for $3250
and well worth the money. But I
have received 2 e-mails saying they just want to flat out buy it and ship it to the UK.  They never have

2004-04-23 Thread John Nasta

It's
pretty simple. The deal is that they send you a check for more money than they
owe you, and ask you to forward the balance to somebody else. Since their check
is international, it takes you a while to find out that it has not cleared. In
the meantime, they hope that you have written a valid check to the third party.

A guy I know
tried to scam the scammer by telling him that he cashed the check and put the
money in a suitcase in his trunk, and then the car got towed by the city. He
then asked the guy for a money order to cover the cost of getting his car out
of the impound yard (claiming he was totally broke and couldn’t afford to get
it out otherwise), and said that he would pay the guy back when he got the cash
back. Of course the cash never existed, but he was trying to scam the scammer.
They went back and forth with a bunch of emails, and the guy managed to get the
scammer's phone number. It eventually got ugly, with the scammer threatening to
send somebody to the other guy's house to collect the money "or
else". At that point the guy sent all of the info to the FBI, and also
sent a message to the scammer saying he could call a certain phone number (the
FBI) to get the matter settled. It’s not worth messing with these guys. Just
ignore them. Any time somebody says that you have to pay money to get money, it
is a scam.
