Re: [Chevelle-list] hood hinges
Hi Harlan, I've just returned from Md. this very day and read your e mail about hood hinges. I have a pair hanging in my garage in Maryland. (drivers side is in need of tightening but passengers side is decent.) If you haven't found any better than this , let me know and the next time my son goes fown to my place I'll have him did them out. I also have a roll of film that I'm getting developed with a few pictures of mine in the mix that will be coming your way soon. Hope all is well with you and yours. (get rid of that nasty cold and cough yet? I hope so).. I purchased a 62 Impala 2 dr ht 283 w/powerglide. I'm going to take my time restoreing it and then when It's done sell it. It needs a complete interior and a lot of the trim replaced. Only a few holes in the trunk and floor pans. (90,000) orig miles and she runs strong) I realy don't know which way I'm going but I have time. It's at a neighbors house now in his garage and I will be looking for parts and catalogs. Keep in touch.Bob Kemmler

I went with the SS hood (note: this is not a clone but kept malibu with 383 stroker). Anyway, I was recently told by the painter that I probably need new hood hinges since the hood is not closing crisply. I plan to order hood hinges and springs. Question one: What was the original color on these hood hinges and springs for a 67 Chevelle ? Question two: Any problem with going with reproduction hinges since they are apparently as good as GM original and almost $30.00 less per hinge. This is not a show car so not worried about being "correct" on every darn part. Thanks, Ken McDee They can be either satin black or the natural color. It's your preference. I had mine painted black, then I changed it to the natural color so they would stand out a little more. Tom

I assume this would be the same for your year too. Both the repro and OEM hinges now come in a black (looks like power coating), and I agree that the repros are just as good. Re: [Chevelle-List] Hood Hinges
Trevor, might be getting with you soon as my car right now is down for hood hinges...well, kinda sorta (driving around al fresco ain't too bad!). The hinges on my '69 decided to fold up and die. I ordered some hinges from OPG (jees, are those guys proud of their shipping) Anyway, turns out I have a '68 hood, 12 1/2" bolt spacing, center to center, and the '69 hinges are 14 1/2, ctc." Since OPG doesn't have '68 hinges, and since I haven't gotten around to looking to see who has, I may just give you a call - if you have '68 hinges. Re: [Chevelle-List] Hood Hinges
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Craig, I can't answer you question directly, but I can tell you where I got my parts from. The '69 SS hinges I found at OPG ? $ 40-50. ea.(1800-243-8355) , and the SS springs came from NPD ( 1800 235 3445) ? ~ $13. ea. OPG originally sent me one '69 hinge and one 68 hinge. They did rectify this without additional expence to me. At least they said they'd credit my account for the original hinge when they rec'd it back, and sent me a mailer label so that there would be no return cost. At first they wanted to just wait for the originals return before sending the replacement, but I wanted it sooner, rather than later, so I charged the 3rd hinge with their word that they'd credit me upon its return. It's been just a few days now so I haven't checked my account.
