RE: [Chevelle-List] non-oxygenated fuel or not?
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List The short answer is that non-oxygenated is plain old gasoline. Oxygenated includes additives that promote combustion-MTBE being the most common, but alcohol is used in some places. Most all gas is now oxygenated due to emissions. I'd avoid alcohol, as it can corrode systems. Otherwise, I never got too excited about it. When I lived in St. Louis, MTBE gas was all we could get, and I ran it in a blown 454 without problem. Sounds a little like a gimmick to me, but it may be legit. Anyone use this stuff yet? Kelly C. Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Larry, you can find some elementary info at http://www.eaa.org/education/fuel/oxygenated.html. Just as an aside, some oxygenates can really do a number on older rubber fuel hose. I strongly encourage everyone to upgrade their fuel systems with new hose designed to be compatible with modern gasoline formulations. Hose marked 30R7 is good for carbureted engines and 30R9 works for higher-pressure systems like fuel injection. Brad O. Re: [Chevelle-List] non-oxygenated fuel or not?
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List In my previous post I included a link to an EAA site with some info about oxygenated fuel. Here's another (it wraps so you'll need to rebuild the string): http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/fuels/bulletin/motorgas/c h4.shtml Basically I did a google.com search for "oxygenated" and "gasoline". There's a lot of info/propaganda out there and quite a bit of it's definitely slanted one way or another. I suggest stockpiling salt grains prior to visiting any websites. ;^) Brad - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The non-oxygenated gas I mentioned is 92 octane and is at several stations near me and they all have these signs stating to use for collector and classic cars only. I didn't think they still had oxygenated fuel around, at least they don't around here anyway unless I'm mistaken and it's all oxygenated. They had it for a while and it made our cars run horrible. Anyways, I usually put good old Sunoco 94 in my 70 chevelle, and sometimes I'll take it to the race track just to add a few gallons of purple (110 leaded) :). Man that cars loves that stuff.
