RE: [Chevelle-list] E bay question
And to top it off, you can't rate a seller on a bid you would've won! It would be great if there was a counter next to the seller's name indicating the number of auctions cancelled. I complained to Ebay a couple of weeks ago about a dealer that had put a certain vehicle up for auction and 6 weeks in a row pulled it in the last hour presumably because it didn't meet their minimum. This was always advertised as a No Reserve auction. Ebay's response was that sellers could pretty much do what they wanted to. Then I reminded them that the sellers always had threatening verbiage about the legality of the bids that buyers place, and they basically said oh well. Guess this contract stuff only goes one way. They said that they cater to the big sellers and don't go after them for misrepresentations. My rant for today. Gene

Fred, If you think about it a second lots of times sellers are driving the bids up themeselves, sometimes just to show theres an interest in the item or sometimes just to get the price up. Thanks J. David Hardin 67 Chevelle 67 El Camino

Speaking of E-bay auctions. Watch out for this guy. His E-bay ID is carparts3. He's putting on auctions with no reserve then if he's not getting the price he wants, he's ending the auction with less than a minute left. He ended two this way last night. One was for a 69 Chevelle tach and the other was for a 68-72 console and shifter. He's ending them stating an error in the listing. Funny how he let both auctions go for 7 days then noticed the error in the last minute on both auctions. Re: [Chevelle-list] E bay question
Interesting discussion about Ebay. I've made a few buys, and never sold anything, but I look at lots of different things quite often. Tools, computer components, sporting goods, and car parts are all saved searches I have. I appreciate all the various experiences and suggestions that I've read recently. Even if they aren't all Chevelle specific, they do relate to our car hobby. You're right,Fred. It is a sure sign of an eBay amateur when you see people doing that. To me this just invites competition and drives the prices out of most peoples range. (Like mine!) My Idea is to bid the highest you want to pay at the last second and let it go. Somebody please tell me what Im missing. Re: [Chevelle-list] E bay question
Fred, you are right. Minimizing what you pay given the Ebay proxy bidding processes, is best accomplished with last second bidding or sniping. The only exception to this strategy is if someone under prices an item and the buy it now is a real bargain, then you snap it up before the minimal bidding takes this option away. My 2cents. Gene
RE: [Chevelle-list] E bay question
I've bought a ton of stuff off Ebay and I'd say 90% of them are always last second bids. Sometimes I might jump in there real cheap just to see if I can find the reserve, but not that often.
