Re: [Chevelle-list] Smokeys Plenum Intake

2005-02-07 Thread yenkochevelle
I have a picture of a 66 Dana Chevelle with the cowl Plenum air filter and
also saw one on a 66 Motion Chevelle. It was available as a service part
counter item. There were a bunch of different units made to fit Chevelle
Camaro and Impala

Check out Chuck Hanson Nov/Dec 2003 "Chevelle World" He has a complete write
up on the installation of one of these "REPO's" on his 1969 Chevelle. I think
they are being reproduced by ACES member Nelson Rudisill out of Rutherford
College NC.

2005-02-06 Thread Dale
Can't verify this one is "original"
http://www.chevellestuff.com/66velle/engines/cowl_plenum_air_cleaner.jpg but
they were indeed offered on 66, and 67 I believe and I've seen numerous ones
on sale at eBay before the current popular reproduction unit was engineered
for sale. If memory serves, collector Bill Macy had one of the 612 reported
built 1967 L78s at the ACES Chevell~abration show in 1999 or 2000 with the
plenum air setup. Can't find a RPO number for it but best guess is that it
would have arrived in the trunk of the car and would be up to the dealer to
install it. Don't know if it was offered on later years or not from the
factory.

What year chevelle had the plenum intake? Was it a real factory
option, dealer install? And where can I find a picture of the "stock"
set up. Also at one time someone was reproducing them, anyone have a
link? ( Dale??)

I sent my brother a web link to a red 66 SS similar to his first in
town 66SS. We got to discussing his car. After seeing Smokeys
version he cobbled together something similar. Now I can't convince
him that GM offered it as an option at sometime. Can someone show me
"proof" for him. Thanx
