Re: [Chevelle-list] YouTube Crash

2009-09-24 Thread Eddie Bumgarner
Im like you Josh. Both have good and bad points. Ive got some drafting and
design behind me, plus I was in a very bad wreck in a 70 chevelle. A woman ran
a stop sign out in the middle of no where, i was running about 55-60 can you
say sudden stop. The car might have went 30 foot. Broke the cars frame in half
behind the front wheel on the drivers side. Peeled the front fender back like a
bannana, i touched the front off the fender sitting in the car. The
steering wheel was laying in my lap still atached to the colunm. Both cars were
about the same size and weight. Her car went air bourne and did a 180, and they
had to cut her out of her car. The roof of her car was like an A frame house.
Thank the good lord my kids were not in the car they would have went through
the wind sheild. The seat belt law was not manditory. I think it was mid 90s or
early 90s. Im glad i was not in a small car.
Point being there are alot of  facters in any wreck, weight is a major
facter, design is a major facter. I look at it like this the old cars has
weight and the new cars have design plus technology. What i mean by weight is
heavier metal used. Its how the facters line up.
What i get upset about is the movie makers like conair destroying a
corvette that i would love to have. At leased in the video it was to learn how
to make cars safer for us.     thanks guys Eddie Bumgarner

I have read up on this and yes it is a dirty rotten shame they would take such
an awsome car and smash it all to hell and yes it can be debatable as the
condition and such of both cars. BUT I do know from my experience as a trained
bodyman (not ASE certified, didn't go through the added classes and went into
another field altogether) I do know that a newer vehicle is safer than an older
one, but that doesn't mean you can't make one safer. I personally know a guy
that got into a pretty bad scrape when his 66 Impala was hit head on by a 90s
Dodge Intrepid.. the Impala won, but his car was packing a fully boxed and
welded frame, 6 point rollbar, and RCI harnesses. He walked away but the big
Imp required a new frame, front clip, and untold hours on a frame rack. The
Intrepid... didn't quite make it. When I wrecked my 66 it did well but it
got me thinking more about the safety issues and I am still debating on at
least a 4 point bar for safety's sake.
You never know what idiot you will run into on the road. Well I've ranted
enough, happy motoring.
