Re: [Chevelle-list] carb air intake system

2004-08-04 Thread Scott Somers

Thanks, I will check into both of these. I'm gonna need it. I also find
repro under bumper air horns as replacements on the W-30 olds on ebay
(2486020815). My wrench really wants an outside air source for that engine.
One of the challenges is getting outside air without taking out the cars
high beams for a air intake. Been considering that as well. Had a guy
yesterday tell my that I'm fixing to have an interesting hood clearance
issue with the 468 engine, Edlebrock air gap manifold, Holley 750 and a 3
KN set with the Xtreme top. Edlebrock says the air gap is only 5/8 taller
than the Performer R-2, P-2 ( whatever ) that was on the 396 so I guess we
will wait and see. Got a spare hood hanging on the wall but I'm trying to
to scoop it. If I do the W-30 thang I just need to get the ram air air
cleaner housing and no hood repaining is needed. Still should go the Street
and Performance injection system and just forget it. Bet I have one on
there by Christmas anyway.
And a 4L60E or better if the 700r4 don't make it like some predict.
Especially if my wrench borrows the car some weekend for a 1/4 mile test
drive. If it has a new tranny in it on teh following morning I'll know the
other one bought the farm.

Anyway, as always, thanks to you for the help. I'll keep you posted.

Scott

In the process of checking out a sound in my 68' with a 396 I decided to
pull the motor and am ending up with a very nasty 468 Gen 6 with roller
cam/rockers, ported heads, very beefy bottom end and so on. Aughta do
 fine.
It was being built as a blower motor, but we are recamming it and doing
 some
head work and using a Edlebrock Air gap and 750 holley. Been thinking
 about
a SP induction system but that's another 4 large so I might do that
this
  winter.

Finally, here's the question. I can only get a 3 filter and the
extreme
top fits right up against the hood. I don't want to rehood or go a
scoop.
Anybody seen a filter intake system that can get more air in. I heard
about a ram air company in Canada and a cold air induction would be nice
 but
other than killing off the high beams or low down scoops that pick up
road
trash, I'm not sure where the exit holes would be.

Thanks in advance for the help. Want it to look god. At my age,
it's
not what ya do, it's how ya look while you're doing it.

Try Air inlet Sys. 905-549-6135

My 65 BB has the same problem. Had to go with a Torker II and a drop air
air cleaner. Sucks!

Have you seen these yet?

They are brand new, and looks to be fairly low profile.
