RE: [Chevelle-list] restoration paints

2004-05-31 Thread Larry Butler

Along the same topic, I've been looking at vinyl dyes. PPG has the UCV
system that I'd like to use for kick panels and bucket seat backs and sides.
It seems more like a coating than a dye. I think that I'll buy the dye in
the bulk (pint?) quantity and shoot it with a gun. It appears that the
system is to use the cleaner (UK 403) then conditioner (UK 405) then coating
(DMVXX where XX depends on color) and finally clear coat (UCV71 or UCV69 for
non-glare dashpad). Has anyone used this system?

Thanks,

Larry

I really like PPG's basecoat/clearcoat process and they really support the
automotive hobby.
Another reason is I work for PPG Industries in the Glass division.

IMO SW paints are the best. Of course I am employed by them and am a
stockholder so I may be a bit biased. I know that they try to cover all the
possible problems before they become problems and formulate around them.
Anyone needing 20% discount cards I have 2 left. E-mail me off list and I
will mail one to you.

Any way I was wondering why you prefer PPG over Dupont. I have
sprayedbarrels of Dupont but never have used PPG. I guess I have always
went withDupont because I have a charge account at the Dupont dealer.
Maybe I shouldbuy some PPG and see for myself what the difference might
be. Thanks Clintfor any feed back.   Ðäññÿ

Should be Cortez Silver, RPO # 69. I agree with Wayne. The top name products
are all very close in quality. The top coat should be the same brand as the
prep coats. These companies sell systems that are tested for compatibility
(i.e top coat adherence to primer coat) so you should stick with a system.

Re: [Chevelle-list] restoration paints

2004-05-17 Thread Wayne
My question to the body shop/painter would be, who's paint did you use on
the panels in prep for finail coat ?

If he used a generic brand then it's a moot point, but if he used th e PPG
system or Dupont system.
then IMO you don't MIX the products...
I always like when a sales man comes in to the body shop and tryes to sell
his paint line .
have that be PPG,. Sherwin Willimans. Keystone,Silkeinnes (sp) they always
say this product is as good as Duponts
Etch prime, or High Build, OR coverage in there translucent base colors.
bottom lime all the front runners have great products,
