Thanx keith. I guess that I misunderstood something said earlier about the expansion
valve. I thought that I had a compressor leak, but now can't find one. I'll leave
things as is for a while.

Rick,
I ask the AC board if you could convert an expansion valve system to an
orifice tube type and this was his response:
"Probably, but I wouldn't unless it's the VIR (Valves In Receiver) type. The
expansion valve systems are excellent retrofit candidates"

I believe he is saying that the expansion system is a good retrofit to R134.

cost of the orifice tube conversion? Is it a "bolt-in" replacement for the
expansion valve.

Well, I don't know about special, but I've been in your shoes
beforewoulda been nice at the time to have this resource for help. I
saw the post about sending help to you and decided it was a very good idea.
I belong to other lists that have done this type thing before for people in
need. We had a friend that wrecked his car and his family had no money to
take care of things afterwards, so we raised the cash to help them. I hate
to see anyone not be able to drive their car, especially when it's an
everyday driver like minethat's what it's all about

No thanks. I prefer the 71 look. I had the chance when I replaced the old cracked
grill...stuck with the 71. Sounds like keith prefers the 71 also.
