[cia-drugs] MOUSSAOUI TRIAL TESTIMONY CONFIRMS FBI COVERUP IN VENICE

MOUSSAOUI TRIAL TESTIMONY CONFIRMS FBI COVERUP IN VENICE

APRIL 06 2006--Venice,FL.
by Daniel Hopsicker

Confounding those who thought it impossible, the FBI’s already-tattered credibility was shredded still further last week with revelations of deliberately concealed evidence in the 9.11 investigation, as well as malfeasance in the probe of the execution-style slaying in Florida of SunCruz Casino Czar Gus Boulis, increasingly the focus of the investigation into disgraced Republican lobbyist-cum-bagman Jack Abramoff.
In a major development  in the 9.11 investigation which passed almost-unnoticed, jurors in the death penalty trial of Zacharias Moussaoui heard testimony from aviation officials about a previously-undisclosed incident...
In February of 2001, almost two months after the FBI says Mohamed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi left Huffman Aviation in Venice Florida for the bright lights of Miami, the two men were still flying a single-engine plane registered to Venice Florida flight school Huffman Aviation.
 Surprise surprise.
The story offers further confirmation of allegations in “Welcome to TERRORLAND" that the FBI systematically covered up evidence showing Atta using Huffman Aviation in Venice as his base of operations for the entire year before the 9.11 attack.
If the FBI’s chronology of events is a tissue of half-truths, distortions and outright lies, it is a very serious matter; the Bureau’s investigation was exclusively relied on by both the Congressional Intelligence Committee 9.11 probe and the 9.11 Commission, neither of which fielded independent investigators.
Moreover, the incident also contradicts sworn testimony before the House Judiciary Committee by Huffman Aviation’s Rudi Dekkers, who stated emphatically that Mohamed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi left Huffman for the last time just after Christmas in 2000.
The cover-up lasts until we say different

The Clearwater incident began, jurors were told, after a police aide and night watchman noticed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi practicing takeoffs and landings at night, which is highly unusual, as the the tiny Clearwater airstrip is closed after dark.
A Clearwater aviation official testified the airport prohibited take-offs and landings after sunset. Planes landing after 9 p.m. were even supposed to be grounded until the next morning.
The disdain with which the two terrorist pilots treated American aviation regulations is already well-known, because of the now-famous incident in which Atta and Marwan walked away from a stalled plane and abandoned it in the middle of an active runway at Miami International Airport.
Dan Pursell, a former chief flight instructor at Huffman Aviation, testified that a Clearwater police aide at the tiny Clearwater Airpark called Huffman Aviation and left a voice message complaining that Atta and Marwan were breaking airport rules by taking off and landing after dark.
Pursell told the St. Petersburg Times, which first broke the story, that when they returned to Venice the next morning, he and another flight instructor at Huffman spoke with Atta and al-Shehhi about the Clearwater incident.
How really brief  "really brief" can be

"Hey, we got a phone call, you've been identified in Clearwater," Pursell remembers telling Atta and al-Shehhi. "This is like, the last straw. If that happens again, we're going to have to look at this a little harder."
He called the exchange "really brief."

When we phoned Pursell to question him about why he hadn't brought to light sooner an incident he must have known had significance to the FBI's timeline, we found him to be a man of few words.
"I told the FBI all about it at the time," he told us. "They knew."
We asked the obvious question. "So why did they continue to lie about how much time Atta spent in Venice?"
Pursell said nothing. So "really brief" described our exchange as well.
Could government attorney Carla J. Martin’s improper tampering with witnesses, which briefly derailed the Moussaoui trial, have been designed to prevent just such disturbing new disclosures?
The answer, of course, as with so much else, is: "We may never know."
A sordid feat breaks a record in a state with a sordid past

In sworn testimony Rudi Dekkers insisted his relationship with the terrorist ringleader ended in December, nine months before the attack.
“On July 1st, 2000,” Dekkers told a Congressional Committee, “Mohamed Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi arrived at Huffman Aviation in Venice, Florida to inquire about taking flying lessons. On July 3rd, 2000, Atta and Al-Shehhi came back to Huffman Aviation to sign up for lessons.”
“On December 24th, 2000, Atta and Al-Shehhi rented a Warrior from Huffman Aviation for a flight... one to two days later Atta and Al-Shehhi returned to Huffman Aviation to make final payments on their outstanding bills. Because they were not taking any more flying lessons, they were asked to leave the facility due to their bad attitudes and

Feds Want to Seize Suspects' Grillz
This story ran on nwitimes.com on Friday,
April 7, 2006 10:47 AM CDT

TACOMA,
Wash. - Talk about taking a bite out of crime _ government lawyers
tried to remove and confiscate the gold dental work known as grillz
from the mouths of two men facing drug charges.

"I've been doing
this for over 30 years and I have never heard of anything like this,"
said Richard J. Troberman, a forfeiture specialist and past president
of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. "It sounds
like Nazi Germany when they were removing the gold teeth from the
bodies, but at least then they waited until they were dead."
According
to documents and lawyers involved in the case in U.S. District Court,
Flenard T. Neal Jr. and Donald Jamar Lewis, charged with several drug
and weapon violations, were taken on Tuesday from the Federal Detention
Center to the U.S. marshal's office, where they were told the
government had a warrant to seize the grills.

Before being put
into a vehicle to be taken to a dentist in Seattle, they called their
lawyers, who were able to halt the seizure, said Miriam Schwartz,
Neal's public defender. A permanent stay of the seizure order was
signed Tuesday by U.S. Magistrate J. Kelley Arnold, court documents
show.

Grills, popularized by rappers such as Nelly, are
customized tooth caps made of precious metals and jewels which can cost
thousands of dollars for a full set. Some can be snapped onto the teeth
like an orthodontic retainer, and others are permanently bonded to the
teeth.

Neal and Lewis have permanently bonded grills, their lawyers said,
declining to provide more description.

Government
lawyers who asked a federal judge on March 29 to order confiscation of
the grills said they did not know the caps had been bonded to the drug
defendants' teeth.

"Asset forfeiture is a fairly routine
procedure, and our attorneys were under the impression that these
snapped out like a retainer," said Emily Langlie, a spokeswoman for the
U.S. attorney's office in Seattle.

Once the government
understood that removal of the grills could damage the defendants'
teeth, they abandoned the seizure attempt, she said.

Schwartz and Zenon Peter Olbertz, Lewis' lawyer, criticized what they
said was a clandestine attempt to have the grills removed.

"It's
shocking that this kind of action by the federal government could be
sought and accomplished in secret, without anyone being notified," said
Schwartz. "It reminds me of the secret detentions" in terrorist cases.

Seizure
warrants are typically sealed to prevent defendants from trying to move
or hide valuables and evidence, Langlie and court clerks said. They
become public with the filing of a return that shows what has been
seized.

about the Administration's warrantless program:
Hiding and distorting the truth and making
claims that in essence would mean that the President is above the law
are serious abuses of executive power and impeachable offenses. An
independent prosecutor should be named to pursue the full scope of
these abuses.

I voted for President Bush and I believe in
standing behind my President as long as he is keeping in check with our
system of check and balances. We should show respect to that man
because of his office. Still that man needs to remember that he, too,
is a citizen of the United States of America and he must abide by the
laws just as I and many other Americans must do.

All public officials in our government serve
the people as authorized by the Constitution and must remain under the
law as promised when they took their Oaths of Office. When the
Executive Branch presumes to judge the legality of its own actions
without judicial review, it opens the door to such abuses of power as
the Founding Fathers sought to prevent.

about being spied on.

This is one way the "elite" influence Congress and
other politicians without "lobbying". JR

Something
You Won't See on CNN By Cliff Kincaid | April 7, 2006
Do you think Senator John McCain will try to inhibit Aspen
influence operations as part of his lobbying reform initiative? Not likely.

An AP story carried on the CBS news website noted that Dick Clark, "a former
senator from Iowa who established the Aspen Institute program for Congress," had
testified against "a total ban on privately funded travel" for members of
Congress. The story failed to note that the Aspen Institute is the number one sponsor of privately funded travel for members
of Congress, having spent $3.4 million on Congress from 2000-2005. Aspen is one
vehicle whereby left-wing billionaires like George Soros work to influence
politicians on Capitol Hill by bringing them to luxurious places, hotels and
resorts, and listening to mostly liberal and left-wing speakers.
Aspen is headed by Walter Isaacson, the former Chairman and CEO of CNN and
the Managing Editor of Time Magazine. Aspen participates in something called the
Ethical Globalization Initiative (EGI), headed by former U.N. official Mary
Robinson, who calls the International Criminal Court, which could prosecute and
imprison U.S. citizens, a "great legal enterprise." Isaacson serves on the EGI
board, along with global tax supporter Jeffrey Sachs, an adviser to U.N.
Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
The AP story did note that Aspen "arranges seminars both inside the country
and around the world where members of Congress are required (by whom?) to attend conferences that last six
hours a day over four days. It does not pay for recreational activities." But
you don't have to pay for the weather. Some of the locations for Aspen
congressional seminars include Naples, Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and the
Grand Cayman Island in the British West Indies.
Clark testified that his "Congressional program," designed to expose members
of congress to academic "expertise" on "complex" issues, is funded by
"established independent foundations such as
Ford, MacArthur, Carnegie, and Kellog." He neglected to
mention the Open Society Institute of George
Soros, listed in Aspen's 2004 annual report as a major
foundation supporter.
But that's not the only Soros connection. Others include:

Aspen's director of communications is Jim Spiegelman, a former "special
  assistant" to Soros.

Soros has been a featured speaker at the Aspen Summer Benefit dinner at the
Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Colorado. The Hotel Jerome is Aspen's "crown jewel." Rooms go
  for anywhere from $636 -$1390 a night.

Arjun Gupta, a member of the Aspen board of overseers, serves as a Vice
President at The Chatterjee Group, an investment advisor to Soros and his
  Soros Fund Management group.

In 2004, Aspen hosted "America's Role in the Fight Against Global Poverty,"
a seminar featuring Al Gore and George
  Soros.
Do you think Senator John McCain will try to inhibit Aspen influence
operations as part of his lobbying reform initiative? Not likely. McCain was a
speaker at an Aspen event, where he and Senator Joe Lieberman said "they would have voted to approve China's attempted
purchase of Unocal, a midsized American oil company, and if the question came
up, they would back the sale of General Motors to a Chinese company."
This seems like a big story, especially in light of what happened with the
UAE/Ports deal.
But it is doubtful that we'll see any stories on this from CNN, which
Isaacson used to run. CNN host Paula Zahn hosted Aspen's 2002 Summer Benefit
dinner at the Hotel Jerome.

[cia-drugs] A Dangerous Mind: Carl Schmitt in Post-War European Thought

A Dangerous Mind: Carl Schmitt in Post-War European Thought
(Hardcover) by Jan-Werner Muller

Carl Schmitt (1888-1985) was one of the twentieth century's most brilliant
and disturbing critics of liberalism. He was also one of the most important
intellectuals to offer his services to the Nazis, for which he was dubbed the
"crown jurist of the Third Reich." Despite this fateful alliance Schmitt has
exercised a profound influence on post-war European political and legal
thought-on both the Right and the Left. In this illuminating book, Jan-Werner
MŸller traces for the first time the permutations of Schmitt's ideas after the
Second World War and relates them to broader political developments in Europe.
Offering a fresh account of Schmitt's life and career along with discussions of
his key concepts, MŸller explains why interest in the political theorist
continues. He assesses the current uses of Schmitt's thought in debates on
globalization and the quest for a liberal world order. He also offers new
insights into the liberalization of political thinking in post-authoritarian
societies and the persistent vulnerabilities and blind spots of certain strands
of Western liberalism.
