Re: [CinCVS] Cinelerra gives symbol undefined error after compilation

2006-11-05 Thread Craig Lawson
Hmm. Looks familiar. Is this when you run cinelerra? If so, have a look in
/usr/local/lib/cinelerra (where cinelerra installs it's plug-ins). Run
"ls -lt" to sort by date, and look for libraries at the end of the list
significantly older than the rest. Delete them.

Craig.

[CinCVS] Cinelerra gives symbol undefined error after compilation

2006-11-05 Thread robbt
Hi everybody.
I just tried to compile Cinelerra for my machine since the debian
package wasn't rendering correctly.
Now I'm getting this symbol undefined error.
cinelerra: symbol lookup error: cinelerra: undefined symbol:
_ZN13BC_WindowBase12create_xatomEPc

I was getting a similar error when I tried to compile Cinelerra before.
Is there any solution or way to fix it or should I just file it as a bug
report and figure I can't use Cinelerra until it gets figured out.

thanks for any help,
  Robbt

[CinCVS] [Bug 358] New: The automation range setting is hard to comprehend

2006-11-05 Thread bugzilla-daemon
http://bugs.cinelerra.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358

Summary: The automation range setting is hard to comprehend
   Product: Cinelerra
   Version: 2.1
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Medium
 Component: User Interface
AssignedTo: cinelerra@skolelinux.no
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you don't already know what the automation range setting at the bottom of
Cinelerra's timeline window is about, you may have a hard time figuring out what
it is for. If you change it just to explore the interface, you may at a later
time wonder why Cinelerra's fader function appears to be broken.

1) The selector and the range box next to it must be paired in a way that makes
it obvious that the range input field belongs to the selector.

2) Better strings for both tooltip and selector are needed. Neither mention
"range" (yes, the input to the right has "automation range" as the tooltip, see
point 1)

3) A way to get back to the defaults would be nice.

The jerky video was only reproduced in Cinelerra 2.0 on my laptop. Sorry.

On 2.1 running on a Dual Opteron, the sound disappears, but the playback is
smooth. Need to check on more marginal hardware, too...

We still need a GUI notification to tell the user that there is a sound
problem, though. Red cross in the patchbay? Statusbar with notifications?

If the sound device is busy, for example because ESD or artsd are running,
sound playback will fail silently if the OSS driver is used. Not only will the
sound fail, but the video playback will be slow and jerky.

The only error messages emitted by Cinelerra are printed to the terminal
Cinelerra is running from. We need something better than this. Should we have
an error consol window?

Hannes,

I checked again, and the linearize effect was renamed to gamma.

Hannes,

I've found the Reframe and Resample effects. Thanks.

However, I don't find the Linearize effect in Cinelerra CV (rev tried:
r942 and r954. I see "Linear Blur", but that's not Linearize. It's
written in Secrets of Cinelerra:

"Raw camera images store colors in a logarithmic scale. The blacks in
these images are nearly 0 and the whites are supposed to be infinity.
The graphics card and most video codecs store colors in a linear scale
but Cinelerra keeps raw camera images in their original logarithmic
scale when it renders them. This is necessary because the raw image
parser can't always decode the proper gamma values for the images. It
also does its processing in 16 bit integers, which takes away a lot of
information.

The linearize effect converts the logarithmic colors to linear colors
through a gamma value and a maximum value. The gamma value determines
how steep the output curve is and the maximum value is where 1.0 in the
output corresponds to maximum brightness in the input.

The linearize effect has 2 more parameters to simplify gamma correction.
The automatic option causes it to calculate max from the histogram of
the image. Use this when making a preview of a long list of images since
it changes for every image.

The use color picker option uses the value currently in the color picker
to set the max value. Note that every time you pick a color from the
compositor window, you need to hit use color picker to apply the new
value."

Franco: I'm not a Cinelerra expert, and others will probably be more helpful
on problems specific to Cinelerra. But, I have spent a lot ot time on getting
NVidia drivers working in the past days on various machines. You don't say
what distribution you're running, but you should be aware that there are some
issues specific to NVidia with the new drivers they've recently released.
apparently, there's much discussion of that on the NVidia forums, though I
haven't visited those myself - they can be found at

forums.nvidia.com

also, if you're running Fedora Core 6, there have been some problems specific
to that distro's recent release - you can search their mail list on the
term "nvidia" and get a lot of hits, here:

http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.general

It doesn't sound to me like you've been bit by the "wrong architecture bug"
but, there's something wrong with your NVidia installation if you're getting
lower resolution than from the linux nv driver - I would suggest you need to
figure that out first, before focussing on Cinelerra.
