[CinCV] Open Source

2010-12-01 Thread Valentina Messeri
yes, it's probably (or absolutely) not correct to call Open Source the
binary of a source (wich is not open at all and not to mention this
binary is only for privative system)

i agree that opensource, more than a brand is some kind of revolution.
And we had to be carefull, when using this term, or we'll probably
lost that sense.

:)
Vale

And already there are lots of questions whether or not it really is
open source (yet?)

Lat's wait one more year. Perhaps EditShare just need more time to
replace some proprietary code. Codec support for example.
IMHO they win much more by GPLing this code then lose.

"Plain flat tasteless", lol, agreed!

I just downloaded it and started installing. Their license is clearly not
GPL nor anything similar. There are things such as "you may only use one
software in one machine", "you may not copy it rather than make a backup
copy", the usual copyright stuff. You also have to register at their site to
download it, which makes me feel at least suspicious...

I mean, I hope they make it, but it certainly has that feeling of:

"oh, let's become open souce, it seems catchy nowadays, how do we do it?"
"maybe we put a link for people to download our software for free instead of
pirating it?"
"seems like a good idea! tell peter to do that on monday. that'd be all?"
"yeah, pretty much! then we send a memo to the developers team. oh, and
perhaps Ana, from the juridical department".

then the devs and the JD freak out, call a meeting and step 2 seems suddenly
further than initially thought...
