I'm Paolo Rampino the mantainer of akirad repository

postrm and postinst both exist only on akirad rebuild for hardy, those
scripts provides to make ( and remove ) a /usr/bin/Cinelerra,
/usr/bin/Cinelerra-admin and /etc/init.d/cinestart.

the script Cinelerra, Cinelerra-admin cinestart are workaround that
makes iso-8859-15 charcode that translate cinelerra in your language.
You can start a "vanilla cinelerra" by typing on terminal cinelerra (
with "c" lo-case )

and as you can read on package description:
An audio/video authoring tool
Cinelerra is a complete audio and video authoring
tool. It understands a lot of multimedia formats
(quicktime, avi, ogg) and audio/video compression
codecs (divx, xvid, mpeg1/2, ...)

This is a special ubuntu rebuild from akirad.net that include some variants:

- cinelerra (all x86 and x86_64 without opengl 2.0 video card)
- cinelerra-generic (all x86 and x86_64 with opengl 2.0 video card)
- cinelerra-k7 (all amd32 without opengl 2.0 video card)
- cinelerra-k7gl (all amd32 with opengl 2.0 video card)
- cinelerra-k8 (all amd64 with opengl 2.0 video card)

add also:
- /usr/bin/Cinelerra scripts that fix traslation problem on ubuntu
- /etc/init.d/cinestart that set shmmax to 0x7fff ( you can edit
this script to not do that )

you can also download orginal source with:

|svn checkout svn://svn.skolelinux.org/cinelerra/trunk/hvirtual

or akirad source with

apt-get source cinelerra| ( before you must enable repository source
with synaptic )

I hope this help you.

Yes and no,
akirad packages are build from svn bundling /usr/bin/Cinelerra ( with
hi-case "C" ), this script provides localization also on non ISO-8859-1
system ( like ubuntu ) and in this way the final user can use vanilla
cinelerra by start /usr/bin/cinelerra ( lo-case "c") from terminal or
lauch icon.

much of the feature set of Cinelerra. Cinelerra will continue to be developed
by Heroine Virtual."

I make that clarification because your original statement makes it sound as if
Lumiera is based upon the HV codebase. Rather, it is the features of Cinelerra
that Lumiera will try to emulate/expand upon/make better.

cheers,
scott

Re: [CinCV] trouble opening project after crash

2008-03-26 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Anne,
I wonder if it is a corruption somewhere in the XML. Can you open a second
instance of Cinelerra, create a new project with the same settings, paste in
your video and keyframes from the first instance, save it under a new name and
then see if the new project crashes?

Awhile back, I had a problem where the XML EDL file became huge (>2MB), with a
bunch of repeating tags. Normally, the XML should be pretty lightweight
(<200K). What size is it?

This doesn't add any value to the logo and requires a huge size to be
somewhat readable. A logo isn't something a user will carefully inspect.
It has to work in a flash of attention.

It wouldn't be readable, only for decorative purpose... to be readable
can be replaced with only 1 band text like Lumiera NLVE

and film looks like a cutter and "L",

To me, it looks like a hard bend film strip. That makes it a damaged
film strip.

Ok, I'm wait for your logo idea...

[CinCV] Lumiera logo try 3

2008-03-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I have read all email about logo guide line... and I have redraw new
logo whit only 1 color. The idea is the same film and camera lens, but
I have added also Lumiera NL video editor tribute to lumiere brothers
in the rounds of lens and film looks like a cutter and "L", on internal
cut can be see "U" and the center contains "M". In png you can see
the lens gradients, but it can remove without problem as you can see
downloading the source package with all draft. We can change color
and add shadows and slick effect without problems.

I have a few suggestions here:

If those don't help, you can also use the "nudge" feature to correct
audio/video sync problems where the drift is constant:

I like the general theme, film/lens, but...
Some suggestions for a logo:
 * Should be recognizeable

you are right, I try to redraw and add new elements... you can see new
job on:

http://project.akirad.net/lumiera/lumiera_logo_01.png
http://project.akirad.net/lumiera/lumiera_logo_01.svg.zip

 * Easy to print (on posters, t-shirts, ..)
 * (thus..) use only a few full colors, no gradients, mixed colors
 * high contrast

Basically idea is to use a modern lens colors and it is a draft, it can
be redraw to be more printer friendly

 * make it look good on diffrent background colors

done

 * Don't require/expect white background

done

 * only vector graphic as authorative source would be acceptable
 * should scale from microscopic size (favicon) up to big posters,

source available now

maybe handcrafted for special purpose (leave details/frames out
   for small ones)

anyways there is so much more to do before we shall care for a logo, I
am currently setting up the project server. We need people helping with
the website, coders etc...

right Christian, I can help site design :) ... Logo is a part of it :p

The center part has something cool, but that outer frame ruins

hvirtual/po/it.gmo is empty as well.
pt_BR.gmo is empty too but the other languages .gmo are not.

Attenzione! Remove all .gmo before compile, but you can also compile
only it.po with:

msgfmt -o cinelerra.mo it.po

and then

cp cinelerra.mo /usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES/

env LANG="it_IT.ISO-8859-15" cinelerra

With this command she opens in English.

I tried also with:

$ LANG="it_IT.iso885915" LANGUAGE="it_IT.iso885915"
LC_ALL="it_IT.iso885915" cinelerra

and similar combinations with no avail.

If Cin doesn't support utf-8 and Ubuntu has not ISO-8859-15 charset, how
is it possible that on Feisty I could run Cin in Italian with:

$ LANG="it_IT.utf8" LANGUAGE="it_IT:it" cinelerra

Boh!

Ciao

On cinelerra main.C, you can read this:

// detect an UTF-8 locale and try to use a non-Unicode locale instead
// <---Beginning of dirty hack
// This hack will be removed as soon as Cinelerra is UTF-8 compliant
   char *s, *language;

// Query user locale
   if ((s = getenv("LC_ALL"))  ||
   (s = getenv("LC_MESSAGES")) ||
   (s = getenv("LC_CTYPE")) ||
   (s = getenv ("LANG")))
   {
// Test if user locale is set to Unicode
   if (strstr(s, ".UTF-8"))

   {
// extract language from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 language = strtok (s, ".@");
// set language as the default locale
 setenv("LANG", language, 1);
   }
   }
// End of dirty hack --->

This means that Cinelerra not support UTF-8 and an hack try to use
utf-8 anyway. On ubuntu work only if you set LC_ALL to it_IT.utf8, but
with bad caracters code. I not be able to know why your ubuntu not
localize cinelerra... but you can:

try to check if exist this file:

/usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES/cinelerra.mo

if not download it.po, compile it as cinelerra.mo and put it on
/usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES

Otherwise try my precompiled package...

But if not work with this: "sarà sfiga! ;P"

Why???

Any chance to change info here:

Thanks for your response. So, does that mean I should wait before I
try to
reinstall it? Or should I get a hold of the binary and compile it
myself?

If that would work, I would appreciate any assistance on how to do that.
That would be totally new to me. Of course, I could always use alien to
port an .rpm over the a .deb. But not sure if that would work any
better?

Oh, and you mention leaving further correspondence on the list? I'd
be glad
to, but not sure what you mean by the list. Remember, I’m a noob to

still.

Thanks again.

There seems to be some problem with your package,
which the packager _and_ the other Ubuntu users
should know about.

I'm cc-ing this to the mailing list;
please leave further correspondence on the list.

At first I got a libfaac.so.0 error. So I reinstalled the libfaac
for 32
bit machines through synaptic. That error went away and the above

now appears. It looks like some kind of illega instruction is going
on???

Not sure what it is or how to find out.

I do remember when running the elive cd, it mentioned an echo

had a number of "f"s in the command. Like this fff. I'll go
reboot

that, and see exactly what it is, and will email you back with that

command

to see if it helps.

Hope this helps.

 Ok, I'll try some troubleshooting:

Do you see a splash screen or any error messages, or does it just
fail silently?

Please start Cinelerra from a terminal (xterminal, gterminal, whatever)
by typing "cinelerra" + Enter on the command line. Do you see any
output there? What output? (Cut and paste into the e-mail, if it is
no more than a screenful. Otherwise take the last 20 lines, or try to
summarise.)

Ron,
I put together a doc on rendering options that worked for me:
http://crazedmuleproductions.blogspot.com/2007/06/beginners-guide-to-exporting-video-from.html

Also in the "docs" section in the right-hand margin of the blog, there is a
spreadsheet showing the results of a study I did on the compatibility of
Quicktime for Linux output from Cinelerra in specific media players.

[CinCVS] Italian cinelerra translator is back

2007-12-01 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

After 2 year, I post a new complete revision of Italian cinelerra
traslation (in attachments), also I've solved traslation problem on
ubuntu builds.

The ubuntu problem don't have any iso-8859-* language, so
you can just add cinelerra.postinst and
cinelerra.postrm ( in attachments ) on trunk/hvirtual/debian and add on
trunk/hvirtual/rules

dh_installdeb before dh_gencontrol.

The scripts cinelerra.postinst detect ubuntu and add iso-8859-15 on
running language and add a simple scripth (/usr/bin/Cinelerra) that
change (on the fly) utf-8 with iso-8859-15 language settings, also
modify cinelerra.desktop.
The scripts cinelerra.prerm detect ubuntu and remove previously
installed iso-8859-15 and /usr/bin/Cinelerra.

It's all.

Jeff,
I recently completed a fresh install of Fedora 7, 64-bit. If you don't mind
compiling from source, I would think that my instructions for installing the
dependent programs for building Cinelerra from source on Fedora 7 still hold up

Hi Christoph,
I also just completed a fresh install of Fedora 7, 64-bit (for some reason,

Hello,

Does anyone have any ideas about this problem?

I have the same problem on both an x86_64 desktop and a x86 laptop,

It worked fine on the laptop when I had Fedora Core 6, but when I
updated to Fedora 7 the problem arose.

It doesn't seem to be a driver problem since the plug ins worked on FC6
using ATI 8.38 and 8.39 driver, and don't work on F7 using same 8.39

I tried posting to Fedora forums too, but no one was able to help.

What is going on?

http://crazedmuleproductions.blogspot.com/2007/06/beginners-guide-to-exporting-video-from.html

It has a listing of render formats and OS versions/media player compatibility.

Re: [CinCVS] Re: A better MPEG-2 encoding than HDV

2007-06-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Terje,
I tested the Quicktime for Linux format fairly extensively. The below
spreadsheet compares the compatibility of different audio/video codecs in the
Quicktime for Linux container format:
http://content.serveftp.net/video/qtcompatibility.ods.html

In that doc, I show compatibility for a project in DV format and a project in
HDV format. The doc is pretty wide, so it helps to view it across two
monitors. If need be, the Open Office version is here:
http://content.serveftp.net/video/qtcompatibility.ods

Re: [CinCVS] rotate video effect

2007-04-04 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Guys,
I've experimented with the rotate effect on a transparent image. Though I've
read the section on keyframing a couple of times now, I must be doing something
wrong, because the interpolation between the two rotate effects that I have
applied to the video track is not happening. I especially read the part where
it says: "Effects are only key-framable in automatic mode because of the number
of parameters in each individual effect"

Here is what I am doing:
1) the transparent gif is stretched to 120 frames on a video track
2) I apply a rotate effect on the first five frames of the track
3) I apply a rotate effect on the last five frames of the track
4) I turn on automatic keyframing by selecting the key icon on the command bar
of the timeline
5) I set the rotate parameter on the first applied rotate effect to 0 degrees
6) I set the rotate parameter on the second applied rotate effect to 180 degrees
7) I hit play to watch
8) I then render out the final to confirm what I am seeing. And what I am
seeing is that the interpolation does not happen and the image rotates only
when the insertion point hits the second rotate effect.

Here is what my timeline looks like:
http://content.serveftp.net/video/rotateapart.png
Here is a sample of the rotate param tweak:
http://content.serveftp.net/video/rotateparam.png

I've also tried applying the first rotate effects to the first and last halves
of the video so that they are adjacent to each other
(http://content.serveftp.net/video/rotatetogether.png)

I then turn on auto keyframing and make my param changes as before.
Unfortunately, this yields the same result.

Hopefully, someone with more experience with auto keyframing with effects can
help me out.

thanks,
scott

[CinCVS] rotate video effect

2007-04-04 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Guys,
I have transparent graphic of a compass that I would like to overlay on a
video. I would like to smoothly rotate this graphic either continuously (loop)
or using a set rotation arc (like 0 to 180 degrees). The existing rotate
effect in Cinelerra is very basic..it does a rotate of a set or custom degree
arc incrementally, one rotation at a time.

As a test, I created a project with a transparent image (png file) stretched to
60 frames. I set a rotate effect every five frames with a degree change of 5
degrees each. So the image would rotate 5 degrees every 5 seconds..5, 10, 15,
20 degrees up to 60 degrees. It worked, but the output was choppy and the
procedure is obviously very labor intensive for what should be a somewhat
simple task.

I also tried the motion effect, trying to do the reverse of rotation
correction. However, the motion effect is difficult to work with and I haven't
had enough time to fully test this method.

Is there an easier way to accomplish what I want? Or perhaps I am just not
seeing something simple. Again, the goal is to rotate a graphic or video
smoothly, just like we do today with camera/projector automation of X, Y and Z
coordinates. If rotation was implemented in the same manner, we could also
using keyframes and bezier curves to do rotations.

i suspect there is some kind of a race where circular reference is
created in cachebase.C

and in function get_oldest it runs around till some other thread does
something to the structure...

i'd put a simple loop catching algorithm there and see if it catches an
'endless' loop

I will try your program out..definetly. Thank you for the detailed explanation!

That is a good idea..I will load up both audio files and see about syncing them

Strange indeed..I would think we should hear it in Cin as well.

I should clarify that when I say sync, I mean the synchronization between the
audio from the multitrack recording to the video. In my case, the sync looks
good in Cinelerra, but not in the rendered output.

I will let you know how I fare after work tonight.

I'll have to take your word for it; the waveforms as presented are rather
difficult to use to verify sync. The other thing to note that at least at
the scale in the above screen grab, two tracks can *look* in sync but
be far enough out to make the sync mismatch audible.

Hmm, I assume you mean 48 kHz.

One question before we start. Was your multitrack and camera synced to the
same clock during the recording session (be it word clock, smtpe etc)? If
not, the reality is that the sampling of your multitrack and that of
the camera audio will differ slightly. The difference might not be large,
but even over 4 minutes I would expect a detectable sync problem towards
the end. The only way to resolve this with unlocked sources is to
resample the audio from the multitrack in such a way that you correct for
the subtle clock differences of the gear used.

I routinely do this kind of thing and wrote a program to do this resampling.
You can check it out at

  http://www.physics.adelaide.edu.au/~jwoithe/audiosync-0.4.tgz

It's quick and dirty but does the job for me. In the context of your
job you would pick to points in the recordings which are easily identifiable
in both waveforms - preferably at the start and end of the audio. You then
work out the exact sample number that this event corresponds to. While this
can be easy for direct audio (from the multitrack in your case) room reverb
can make picking events difficult in the camera audio (unless you piped
the direct sound into the camera as well). Usually I pick things like the
snare hits, for obvious reasons. These sample numbers are then used by
audiosync to resample the multitrack recordings so those events line up
exactly. So long as you've chosen accurate samples you will end up with
very good sync over the long term (for example, using this method I
often achieve synchronisation to within 10 samples over a period of 90
minutes).

As far as the software you need to work out the sample number of these
events I use audacity. I set it to work directly with the audio files since
it loads the files much quicker (although with only 4 minutes of audio
you are unlikely to have problems either way). You can set the location
display to be in samples using an item about half-way down

Re: [CinCVS] constant hangs on HDV project

2007-02-05 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the response. The HDV files I'm working with are composed of the
following:

MPEGTS (transport stream) container
-MPEG2 video: 1280x720, 29.97fps, 18300br
-MPEG audio layer 2: 48.1khz, 2 ch, s16le, 384kbit

In addition, I have two tracks (stereo pair) of wav files sampled at
16bit/48.1khz. I initially said four tracks of video, but I have recreated the
project with two extra audio tracks only (as I will explain below).

Here is a little more about the purpose of the project:
The project is a video of a rock band. The original audio track quality was
poor, so I am substituting the stereo audio output from a multi-track recording
of the gig. So all I am doing is syncing up a second source of audio to the
original track. Simple, no?

I worked on the original project file a little more last night. I noticed the
output of the command window was saying "File too large", so I re-rendered only
a portion of the original MPEGTS using AVIDemux (great program, by the
way..really fast). My source MPEGTS file shrank from 7GB to 2.7GB. However,
2.7GB is still larger than the magical 2GB mark. I am not sure why I should be
getting that message as the standard Cinelerra compiler flags are set for
largefile sizes. I reviewed the message board regarding the latest messages
about "File too large", but there is no definitive answer on the source of
these messages. But the fact that the file is greater than 2GB is probably why
I am getting "File too large".

I recreated the project, and now there is less hanging, but the hanging still
happens when I zoom in to sub-second time frames and move the wav tracks ever
so slightly to better align with the audio track from the original video. This
happens every other time that I move the tracks.

Regarding swap, I will check this when I get home from work tonight.

I suspect 2G is not "a lot of memory" when HDV is used.

Scott,  would you include what codecs are being used in your project for input material?  That determines loading and playing memory behavior.

Without any swap, it will be impossible to tell if you really needed swap or not.  (ie.  You can't tell if your project would run faster without swap, because you can't check if it was never used.)  You're long pauses suggest there may be a memory issue though.  The advice to try 4G of swap would help to rule out memory exhaustion as the issue.  (You can use swapon and swapoff to test.)

Re: [CinCVS] editing hdv w/ proxy files

2006-11-17 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi Rafael,
I have been working with HDV and Cinelerra since the beginning of the year and
have written down a bunch of experiences in my blog,
http://crazedmuleproductions.blogspot.com. The blog isn't well organized yet,
but may provide you some insight into the successes and defeats of working with
HDV.

As you've noticed, HDV is very resource intensive, so it makes sense that one
of us should figure out how to script the proxy editing process.

hi all,
A imc friend got a HDV cammera and wants to produce HDV content (in his G4
notebook).
Well, as i can see, it's very difficult to directly edit HDV content, so the
solution of using intermediate files to edit, and then, to render, replace
the files w/ the HDV quality files appears to be the solution.

Anyone has some scripts to do these conversions?
any howto or guide about HDV editing under linux?

next week i'll post my experiences.

thanx!

Re: [CinCVS] [CINELERRA-CV MANUAL] Licensing issues solved

2006-11-02 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi Mack,
When I first started with Cinelerra, I didn't know much about the many
audio and video codecs and container (file) formats. I am still learning
today. As I wanted to produce a DVD or video for my iPod, I researched and
tested different formats output from Cinelerra. In the end, I mainly use
ffmpeg or mpeg2enc for my render stream, as those work with a few tweaks.
Since I spent so much time researching and testing, I figured other people were
burning many hours doing the same, so I wrote documentation on rendering for
beginners and the compatibility of Quicktime formats as generated by Cinelerra
(these are linked on the Twiki):
http://content.serveftp.net/video/renderTest/guideToCinExport.html
http://content.serveftp.net/video/qtcompatibility.ods.html

My goal was to help people get usable content out of Cinelerra. I did
not have a compendium explaining common codecs and formats, but I would say
that something like this would be very helpful for everyone using Cinelerra.
This is a subject that I've found to be poorly documented and in general, very
confusing. As I have some good sources of information in my bookmarks list,
I'd be willing to help build such a compendium if that is your intent.
Finally, I am constantly improving my doc and if it is lacking in some way, I'd
be glad to make improvements for anything that is unclear.

As reference, here are some of the pages out there that helped me get started:
