Mh, does Cinelerra even benefit from Hyperthreading?

Anyway, Hyperthreading is not just disabled on the Core architecture.

Hyperthreading was just a way for overcome problems caused by the Netburst
architecture's extremely long pipeline.

As I understand it, something like Hyperthreading would not really help on
the Core architecture, which is a direct descendant of the Pentium-M and
thus based on the Pentium III architecture rather than Netburst.

Greetings,

  Gunter

Re: [CinCVS] ideal machine = ?

2007-01-20 Thread Richard Pitt
The machine I just put together doesn't quite have the CPU (due mostly
to cost) but the rest works out just fine:

Dual nVidia 7900 GS cards and 4 monitors (Optiquest V95 for color
fidelity, LG Flatron Wide for aspect, and 2 NEC AccuSync LCD71VMs for
extra desktop space

4 Gigs RAM

Intel Core Dual 2.4GHz (I'll upgrade to the faster chip when they turn
on hyperthreading and the price comes down a bit)

Asus P5N32-SLI mother board

4 x 300Gig Seagate SATA striped for working space
2 x 300Gig Seagate IDE RAID1 for the OS

Plus 7 machines in the basement set up as major disk storage (18TBytes)
and as a render farm.

The only problem is that the machines in the basement were all purchased
as disk storage only, and most have Celerons in them :(

Gigabit E throughout.

I don't use such a beast (@home, to run Cinelerra ;-)). Mine is a
dual-core AMD64 4600+X2 with 3Gb RAM, and it's perfect for editing DV
material. Some people here probably use far more powerful computers, but
anyway, we can't really tell you our opinion, since all depends of what
you'll do with Cinelerra. Will you edit HDV or DV?

Definitely an Nvidia one. An NVidia 7600GS works fine, as stated here:
http://cvs.cinelerra.org/docs/wiki/doku.php?id=english_manual:cinelerra_cv_en_2#hardware_requirements

> What 64 bit distribution would you recommend?

I'm not quite sure the distribution would make a big difference
anyway...

Nicolas.
