Re: 1 ASN versus 2 for BGP?

2000-10-27 Thread Aleksander Kocelj

Just a remark:
BGP by default DOES NOT support load-balance (it was not designet to do so).
You can set default path for your AS but you can not influence to other AS.

Suppose I set up BGP multihoming from company X site A to 2 ISPs (load
balance). If I decide to additionally set up BGP multihoming from company
X
site B to 2 other ISPs (load balance), can I still use company X's ASN or
do
I need to get a second ASN? My guess is that I need 1 ASN. Would there
be
 a time when I'd need 2 ASNs?

Re: Management VLAN

2000-09-11 Thread Aleksander Kocelj

VLAN just devide ports to different different broadcast domains. Broadcast
will go only to ports that are in the same broadcast domain.

So broadcast will go thro but not to all ports.

 Hi,

I'm having a discussion with some colleage's of mine about the management
 VLAN.

One says thaty the management VLAN will let trough broadcasts I'm
saying that it will not let trough broadcasts. The management VLAN is only
to manage your switches and routers by telnetting etc. and it won't let
 trough broadcasts..

Am I right or does my colleage win this one :) ??

Re: Cat 6509 and Suns

2000-08-10 Thread Aleksander Kocelj

Does this VLAN's see each other (Trunking or router)?
If that is so, you have a problem, because switch remebers the MAC addresses
and
MAC addresses on the LAN (nomatter that NIC are on different subnet) MUST be
unique.

I was trouble shooting and issue with a Sun server and
have found an interesting issue. The admin called and
said they were having a problem getting to certain
network. In my search to find his issue, which turned
out to be his, ;) I found that his Sun box has a Quad
card installed and that he had not given each
interfaces a unique MAC address. The two interfaces
had the same MAC but in different subnets. The 2
interfaces are connected to the same CAT on diff
VLANS. My gut says this is wrong and that it should
be a problem. I can't prove if this is causing an
 issue.

The Cat is based on a MAC to port mapping. Wouldn't
the CAT get confused? No trunking or channeling is
 happening.

 Any thoughts??

Hey, I barely got in with a 794, BUT I'm in there! Thanks to all who
helped out. I used all the usual CISCO PRESS and Todd's books. I
bought a Sybex E-trainer for $110 (had to buy it local) and used it
once, researched the rest. I am among the confused though
about whether I'm supposed to go online to sign an agreement, thought
I did that on the test? I think it was the survey first, then Career
Cert, last...I think. I'm headed for CCNP track, if I win the
lottery. Without money, I'll go for CCDA to stall for some time.
  :) Love, Dale
