Re: Bandwidth restrictions on serial ports [7:26188]

Do a search for CAR (committed access rate) on CCO,
and police traffic based on an ACL.

 Hello Group,

We have a small ISP which gives few 128k Leased lines (ppp
configuration) from a Cisco 3640 router. This same router also the
 gateway to the international pipeline.
Our requirement is to RESTRICT the international line usage by the
 Leased line customers.
Preferably we look at limiting 128k leased lines to an effective 64k
from our 3640, without making it appear to the customer end.
Please let me know, is there a way to do the above restriction.

 Thanks,
 Vajira

Re: Committed Access Rate calculations [7:23839]

Use the following formula:

average rate = x
normal burst = x*0.1875
extended burst = x*0.375

ie. for an 8Mb average rate, use:

rate-limit output 800 150 300 conform-action
exceed-action

This is detailed in the following link:

 set-prec-transmit 5 exceed-action drop
 rate-limit output 800 16000 24000 conform-action set-prec-transmit 5

I grabbed these three examples from CCO. Is there a rule for the
calculation of the normal burst and maximum burst values if we are not
told
explicitly what those values should be? In the three examples above, only
the last one had explicit values defined.
 These examples were found at

How can i divide a given bandwidth between leased lines and ADSL
subscribers
any hints or guides for dividing bandwidth among them and about the
sharing
 ratios
