BCRAN: 700 or 800 Series Router Commands? [7:66290]

2003-03-26 Thread Colin Weaver
Does anyone know if the Remote Access exam is still using the 700 series
router command set as the basis for potential questions? The Cisco Press
books still have a chapter on the 700 series and the Cisco website still
shows the 700 series as part of the official Cisco curriculum but I want to
make sure before I buy equipment.

Thanks.

If you were gonna' build a dream CCIE lab... [7:55266]

2002-10-10 Thread Colin Weaver

Hi All,

I'm looking for opinions on what you would do (buy) if you could build your
own "dream" CCIE home lab. What equipment would you get (Routing &
Switching CCIE)?

I'm getting some mixed information on what equipment is actually used on the
CCIE lab scenarios. I've heard, for instance, that the Catalyst 5500 is
being replaced with the 6500. Does anyone know where an up-to-date
equipment list is?

Thanks.

-Colin

P.S. - I'm still searching for ANY 5.x firmware for a Catalyst 1900. Help.

Console Connection / Firmware Upgrade via Xmodem on "antique" [7:54834]

2002-10-03 Thread Colin Weaver

The hyperlink below describes my problem exactly. I have an older catalyst
1900 with a DB9 console port rather than the newer RJ45 connector. My
rollover cable/DB9 connector won't work. I do get output when I go into the
diagnostic console but not when the switch boots. Up until the point when I
deleted my firmware I was getting the ATQ0H0 (see link below) garble only.

http://www.groupstudy.com/archives/cisco/200101/msg00790.html

Too add insult to my injury I tried to upgrade the firmware and it failed.
Now, sans any firmware on the switch, I can only get into the diagnostic
console but when I try to download the new firmware via XModem it fails. I
tried to make new DB9 null modem connectors per the Cisco web site (link in
the URL above) but I get nothing when using them. I'm still using a
rollover cable but have the pins on the DB9 connectors crossed over per
Cisco's website. The body of the message (the part from David) above isn't
readable (the formatting didn't get preserved in the post) so I can't try
his recommendation.

Can someone please help me out with some specific guidance? I could use it.

Thanks.

Colin

Console Connections with USB-to-Serial Adapter [7:52249]

2002-08-28 Thread Colin Weaver

I posted this to the associate group and was told I may have better luck
here. Any help is appreciated.
---
My new laptop has no serial port. Imagine my suprise...

I bought a USB-to-serial adapter so I can console to my devices but can't
seem to get connected. Has anyone been successful doing this and if so,
how?

I have tried both HyperTerminal and SecureCRT with no luck.

Thanks in advance.
