 Hi all,

Passed CIT today with an 895 to finish off my CCNP.
Dropped just below my target of 900 for all the exams, but I've been
rushed
into this one a little as our company needs the CCNP by next week for Gold
 Partner. (Did BCRAN last Tuesday).
I now feel like I've forgotten something if I don't have a book in my
hand.

The Cisco Press books have got me through it, with a few Boson exams when
 time permitted.
Not sure where to go next - possibly CCDP, possibly Security
specialisation,
 possibly CCIE written.
Possibly to the pub first before I attack another book.

Thanks to everyone for a great study group which always inspires.

 Gaz

WTG George! I too became a CCNP (last Friday). The fact remains that your
hard work has paid off and will reep the benefits of doing so. In the light
of the tragic events does does seem to somewhat dim the rewards of your
accomplishment. I just wanted to pass the congrats along and take the time
to do so.

Today I became a CCNP. I wish that this happy personal moment would come
at
another time and not today after these terrible acts of violence. I must
post this however to thank my friends Ole, Heather, Priscilla and many
others who have directly or indirectly helped me pass all tests (part of
my
success is yours). As many from this list reside/work in the US let me
express my sincere condolences for this tragedy. Sometimes words are not
enough but all I can say is lets try to live in peace as hatred brings
more
hatred. This list is a paradigm of sharing knowledge and ideas and I will
continue to read/post so that I can, if possible, help others as others
have helped me in the past.

Does anyone who passed CCNP switching know if HSRP is covered on the exam?
Its not an objective on the Cisco site, but both Cisco Press and Lammle
dedicate a whole chapter to it. Thanks...

Re: Can anyone help an aspiring CCNP? [7:11920]

2001-07-11 Thread Eric F. Varner

IMO it was tougher than the CCNA test. Become one with CGMP and trunking. I
used the Exam Cram and Cisco Press (Switching). I also used Keystones Video
CD's and practice exam questions. (BTW I have this kit for sale on e-bay) I
felt like I could have done a lot better with more studying. But, I felt
like I was learning as I was going through the material instead of
memorizing for a test. Some of the test questions are poorly written.
Study time: 1 month
Score: 825
Knowledge gained: priceless :)))

Re: RouterSim 3.0 [7:11342]

2001-07-08 Thread Eric F. Varner

I used the RouterSim 2.0. You can install it on different machines...but in
order to use it on the other machine you have to remove the license and
install it on the other. I did this..but with the 2.0 version is screwed me
outright. What I mean is that I removed the license off of my laptop and
tried to install it on my desktop system. It wouldn't install.. I then tried
to reinstall it back on my laptop..nope! I tried reinstalling the entire
program..NOPE! It wouldn't work at all now. I tried customer service... no
help! I was out the money I paid for it. I hope 3.0 is much better in that
regard.
Bottom line: You can install the program on multiple systems and use the
single license when you want to enable it on that particular system.

No matter how you slice it, it is still piracy. When you steal, yes
steal,
 from one
person/company/institution/etc it matters not what you do with it
afterwards
(the Robin Hood complex), the original owner has still suffered a loss.

However, since you appear to reside in Hong Kong, I am not surprised at
your
attitude. Hong Kong has long been a source of pirated software and other
 copywrited material.

To answer the original poster's question: You cannot install it on two
 machines at
once. The CD comes with an installation diskette that tracks the
installs.
 You can
however, uninstall it from one machine and then install it on another.
BTW,
I understand that Ver 3.0 is much better than the previous versions, with
the
previously unavailable ability to change the topology of the network.

years hence when does the three years start?

1)When you take the first of the four exams or
2)When you take the last of the four exams.

For example if I took BCRAN today July 2001 and then took the last if the
four say CIT in December 2002 would the clock for the three year re-take
start in July 2001 hence be July 2004 or in December 2002 and the re-take
be
 in December 2005?

Does the CCDP qualification only require you to re-take the CID exam that
is
available at the time of the re-take three years hence. Any takers? Or
 Re-takers?

 Karl

 Hi Folks,

Passed the BSCN today with a score of 896... fairly straight forward...
 though I found I needed
 most of the allocated time.

Came up against the expected areas... OSPF, EIGRP, BGP .. know these
 well and you will
 ace this test..

I also got the 'select the command from the list' format seems to be
 the norm now

Okay I think Ill tackle the Switching exam next.

 Regards, Peter.

Congrats!!!

I just signed up to this list and have started down the path for my CCNP and
have my switching test scheduled in 2 weeks. Thanks for the info down below
concerning what types of questions they are going to ask on the exam. Right
now I am using the Exam Cram book + OJT in our lab. Will this be enough to
pass? (I know it's hard to say... but just wondering if the Exam Cram covers
enough to pass)

Thanks!!!

Well, I went and took my switching exam this morning at 9 AM. Passed
with
 a
score of 912! I used the Cisco Press book to study (plus OJT). The
exam
was pretty straight forward. I only had two questions that I thought
were
  poorly worded.

Minimum passing score - 699, 64 questions, one and a half hours to
 complete.

I had few questions on multicasting and hsrp. Lots of questions on when
to
utilize different switch types (know your hardware and where to use in
the
network). Know VLAN operation. Know how multilayer switching works.

If anyone has any questions that do NOT violate NDA :-) I will be
happy
 to
  answer them for you.
