Re: SNA Simulator for SRB DLSw+ testing

Jon,

It's been two years since I took the SNAM course, but If i remember, we used
OS/2 Comm Manager...

Jon [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message

Has anyone played around with the SNASim product from www.acomtech.com?
I'd like to setup some SRB and DLSw labs, but I don't have any way to
create SNA traffic. Some of the study docs I've read suggest running
NetBIOS over the links, but I'd rather run SNA, if possible.

I don't really understand how the mainframe LU/PU/3270/tn3270
connection works, but I was hoping this product would emulate the
"server" end of the SNA traffic. I still need to figure out how to get
the client side working -- I'm guessing that the Extra! type client is
meant to connect to an IP-SNA gateway somewhere, and I'm not sure how
to make a PC talk SNA (natively).

Any input is welcomed, I'd like to either get some help making it work,
or a definitive reason why it wont, so I can move on to other things.

Re: Question on HSRP

2001-03-06 Thread James Garner

HSRP works at the LAN interface (or sub-interface) level.
The purpose of HSRP is to provide default gateway in the event of router
failure.
Each router has an IP address on an interface and there is a virtual router
(IP address) created between
the two routers, where one is active, the other is standby. This should be
set by a priority statement.
On a LAN segment, there are two routers... ip address 192.168.1.2 and
192.168.1.3. By using the standby commands a virtual router is created
(192.168.1.1) Users specify this as their default gateway.
Since one of these is active, it is routing traffic. There is a hello packet
that is sent from the standby router to the active router, if it doesn't
acknoledge, the standby goes active.

Does that make any sense?

JayMan.

"NetEng" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message
98423i$l2e$[EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:98423i$l2e$[EMAIL PROTECTED]...
Does HSRP work at the interface level or is the entire router on
acvtive/stand-by? In other words, if I have two routers working in HSRP
and
a link goes down somewhere down the line, will the first router know to
fail-over to the second router (with a good link)? I have one router
connected to one ISP and a second router connected to a second ISP. Can
these routers be run in HSRP or must they be running in parallel and let a
dynamic routing protocol (BGP on the outside and let's say EIGRP on the
 inside) decide? TIA.

 Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say thanks to all the posters on this list. I've mostly
been a lurker on this list, but the knowledge gained from those who do
post
helped me pass BSCN with a 931. This test was incredibly more difficult
than both the CCNA and BCMSN tests. I thought for sure I failed that
thing!

 take care,

When you view the exhibit that Larry mentions below, make sure you resize

when you first look at the tables, the columns are not lined up.

BCMSN gives you an exhibit with all the base-10 to base-16 conversions. So
it's pretty simple to make the IP into a multicast MAC.

Re: Cisco CCNP books question

2001-02-08 Thread James Garner

First of all CONGRATULATIONS

I'm currently studying for the CCDA.
What resources did you use to study?
I have these:
 Designing Cisco Networks - Teare
CCDA Exam Certification Guide - Bruno
 Top-Down Network Design - Oppenheimer
Cisco Certified Design Associate - Lammle
A bunch of "study guides" I gathered from the net.
Which I think is to much information.

Were the case studys on the CCDA test similar to any that you had seen
before?

After the CCDA, I plan to pursue the CCNP, CCDP.
I passed the switching test using the BCMSN from the CCNP Prep Library (Very
Good)
I would recommend buying the Library (4 vol set)...
Check www.addall.com for best prices on the web:

Does anyone know what is the difference between the CCNP Certification
Library and CCNP Preparation Library? Which is better to use for
 studying the CCNP exams?

 CCNP Certification Library:

 CCNP Routing Exam Certification Guide
 CCNP Switching Exam Certification Guide
CCNP Remote Access Exam Certification Guide
 CCNP Support Exam Certification Guide

 CCNP Preparation Library:

 Building Scalable Cisco Networks
 Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks
 Building Cisco Remote Access Networks
 Cisco Internetwork Troubleshooting

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 Hi,
 Try this link for starters:

I took the test a few weeks ago and used the CiscoPress "Cisco
Internetwork
Design" book to prepare. As for how many questions are on the test, I
don't
remember exactly but it was one of the longer tests that I have taken.
