But they do. I live in Iceland and cisco sends me free books when I ask for
them. It takes usually 6-12 weeks to get here. I will expect this VPN book
around cristmas.

ARE YOU PEOPLE STUPID?? They don't want to send stuff to other countries
likely because of the high cost of shipping overseas. Dammit people get a
grip. Cisco is based in the US and I doubt they are going to stock these
books all over the world. Amazing how clueless some of you people are.

RE: CCNP Todd Lammle Books???

2000-09-22 Thread Jon . E . Gudmundsson

I use following tecnique when I study for an CCNP exam:
- I try to get as much hands on experience as I can.
- I read some hands on books about the material. The CCIE books are usually
good.
- Then I read a studyguide like Todd Lammle writes. I do it to get an
overwiev of the material for the exam.
- At last (Last week or so before the exam) I start reading books like the
Exam notes from Sybex or the Exam Cram books from Coriolis. I am lazy and
dont take notes when I read so I use these books as they are designed to be
as notes. At this stage I take as many practice exams as I possibly can to
see where my knowledge lacks and hit the books again.

I am confused on which books to buy for my CCNP. I see the Exam Notes books
by Todd Lammle and then there are the full, lengthy books by Todd Lammle.
Which are better for learning the material? Do the Exam Notes books give
just what you need to pass the tests??

Passed BCRAN was RE: Recommended Books for BCMSN & BCRAN

2000-10-31 Thread Jon . E . Gudmundsson

Take a look at the archives about BCMSN. There was a message from me 2
months ago about BCMSN books.
I passed BCRAN yesterday and here are the studymaterial that I used:
Books:
- Building Cisco Remote access Networks by Pacquet et al. Cisco press. It is
good to have for the exam bechause it is based on the BCRAN course and it
helps you to consentrate on the right subjects.
- BCRAN Building Cisco Remote access networks by Tom Thomas II.Macraw Hill
It is an excellent book and much better than his BCMSN book. It explains
everything in details.
- Cisco IOS 12.0 Dial solutions. Cisco Press. This book contains everything
about dial up networking. I am definetly going to read it again for the
CCIE.
- Remote Access Exam Cram. It was not as good as the Exam Cram for the BCMSN
Other materials
-Papers from www.cisco.com
- Cramsession from www.cramsession.com. It was excellent paper to brush up
few hours for the exam and much better than the cramsession paper for BCMSN.
- Experience. On the job experience. I could set up a lab with 1 3620 one
800, 2500 and 2600 to play with.
Hope this can help somebody on the list

RE: Closest to the real one...

2000-11-16 Thread Jon . E . Gudmundsson

I use this test usually a week before the exams that I take. I have used the
Colt exams for the Switching exam and for the remote access exam. It is good
for finding out your weak areas. What I do is that I print out every
question and when I get the results I read the question that I got wrong and
then read the chapter regarding this question again. And if I still do not
get it I try to find and read papers about it on the CCO. After that I take
the test again and do the same thing over.
I can separate my study into few stages and this procedure has worked for
me.
1. I collect and read as much study material as I can find. I try to get the
Cisco Press book regarding the exam I am taking so I can see what material
is on the exam. For example I am now reading for the BSCN exam and I one of
the books that I bought was Building Scalable Cisco Networks by Catherine
Paqet.(the first 100 pages are good by the way)
The books that I am reading now for the BSCN are:
-Building Scalable Cisco Networks by Catherine paqet
-BSCN Building Scalable Cisco Networks by Tom Thomas II
-CCIE Professional Development: Routing TCP/IP by Jeff Doyle
- Internet routing Architectures by Basam Halabi
- Advanced Routing Configuration student guide from the class (My former
colleague at work got it in the old ACRC class.
-BGP4 Inter-Domain Routing in the Internet by John W Stewart (I have already
read that one )
-Ospf Anatomy of the internet by Moy (I have already read that one so I will
just need it to brush up before the exam)
2. After I have read the books I take the case studies and do them here at
work. Sometimes I do that while I am on step 2 so stages 1 and 2 get
somewhat mixed up. I try to take at least two weeks for case studies and
labs for each exam. I work with cisco routers so that helps immensely at
this stage.
3. Last one or two weeks before the exam I start preparing for the exam
itself. I do that by reading books that collect the material together like
The Choriolis Exam Cram and exam prep series. On this stage I take one or
two books from the reading part and read them again (Usually I read over the
summaries and the case studies). On this part I usually print out related
material from the CCO and read some RFCs.
4) The last one week before each exam I take as many practice exams as I can
get my hands on. Boson,Colt and free practice exams on the net.
And of course I read emails from this list on all stages
I see the study procedure for each exam as a small step on my way to the
ultimate goal "To gain knowledge to be (hopefully) better in what I am
doing". That goal will reach far beyond the CCIE (s).
Hope this helps an good luck

Although the idea that the survey affects the score is interesting, I too
cannot fathom how the survey matters.

You can answer the survey different for every exam. Where is the continuity
there? And explain to me the difference between a "beginning" CCIE
Candidate and a "seasoned" CCIE Candidate.

Changing your answers to the survey seems like an easy way to improve your
odds. How would Cisco know that your survey answers are correct?

In truth, I don't think I have answered all the surveys the same as I have
grown from the first Cisco exam over 2 years ago to completing CCDP/CCDP
just last month.

Nah, I don't think the survey means anything to us. I do think that Cisco
wants to know the demographics of who is taking what exams. Unfortunately
this would mean that Cisco is adding a little scare tactic to get you to
answer their survey but perhaps adding a little more anxiety when you need
it least.

my .02 cents

RE: BCSN 2.0 Preparation

2000-07-06 Thread Jon . E . Gudmundsson

I am going to take that exam on the 26 th of august. This exam is much build
on routing protocols like OSPF, BGP and EIGRP. Here is that I have studied
so far:
1) The exam objectives on the cisco page
2) There is a good explanation of the difference between the old ACRC and
BSCN on www.boson.com in pdf format
3) Advanced Cisco router configuration Study guide by Todd Lamle from Sybex
( I read the chapters about ospf, eigrp and BGP but I skip everything else in
it.
4)Advanced cisco router configuration Exam Notes by Todd Lamle from Sybex (I
do the same for that book as well)
5) ACRC student guide from a course that someone at my work took 3 years
ago. I read the routing protocol part and skip the rest
6) I am reading now ospf: Anatomy of an internet routing protocol by John.
T. Moy. It is an excellent book about the OSPF and goes into great details.
Moy is the author of the most RFCs that have been published of ospf.
7) I will read through the www.cisco.com about ospf, eigrp and bgp through
the next month.
8) I am waiting for following books to arrive:
Internet Routing Architectures
ISBN: 1-56205-652-2
By Bassam Halabi

CCIE Professional Development: Routing TCP/IP
ISBN: 1-57870-041-8
By Jeff Doyle

Advanced Cisco Router Configuration (ACRC)
ISBN: 1-57870-074-4
Edited by Laura Chappell

IP Routing Fundamentals"
 Mark A. Sportack;

I am looking for a book or article on the net about ospf over frame relay.
Moy do not take that in as much details as I like to but maybe some of the
above books that I am ordering will dig deeper into it.
Hope this helps
