RE: B-link2 ISDN Simulator Help.....??????? [7:51123]

2002-08-09 Thread Jonathan Mian

What interfaces are you using on your routers? Are they U or S/T?

The BLink-2 is the same as my SlimLine-2 and it uses S/T ISDN interfaces, so
if you are trying to use it with U type it will never work!

Changing the Telnet port from 23 to XXXX [7:49892]

2002-07-27 Thread Jonathan Mian

Ok this may be a really dumb question, but what the heck.

Is it possible to chabge the telnet port from 23 to lets say 5023 (assuming
its not used by anything else.) I would like to do this for my Cisco 2511-RJ
to provide better security for the lab.

Any pointers are most welcome, even the funny ones :-)

Cheers,

RE: Copying RAM to a text file [7:36671]

2002-02-27 Thread Jonathan Mian

Hi,

You do realise that you do not have to use TFTP servers just to upload a
config you can use cut and pate in the telnet sessions. That is if you
highlight the whole config (leave out the bit that says IOs version blah
blah blah) and on the router enter the exec mode and then type conf t (ie
config terminal) then move your mouse over the telnet sesiion window and
select paste, this pastes all the config into the relavent sections. If
however the router does not understand a command it will show up as an error
when pasting it in.

If thios is confusing you then just think of a file extension like .tct,
.doc..what ever as an application association extension. You can right click
any file and use the open with option if it has no known application
associated with it.

I use notepad or http://www.editpadclassic.com/ to edit all my configs saves
no end of time.

i hope this helps and answers your question.

All the best,
Yeti-GBR1

RE: Copying RAM to a text file [7:36671]

2002-02-27 Thread Jonathan Mian

Hi Jeff,

Yes you can copy any file the TFTP server does not care what extension a
file has as long as its a valid file name, The only thaing on a Cisco that
would mind is the IOS that expects certain files to have no extensions or a
.bin, .html, so on... (the web side stuff is more for switches, or thats
what I have seen/found)

I hope this answers the question.#

All the best,

Oh yeah I forgot to say that all the config files like startup/running are
ASCI-II ones so as mark said use notepad or another ASCI-II editor to be safe.

Re: No can do [7:34864]

2002-02-08 Thread Jonathan Mian

Oh yes you can...read
this:http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/125/frbacktoback.html

Extract from the link:

Introduction
This document is a sample configuration for setting up two Cisco routers
back-to-back using Frame Relay (FR) encapsulation. The routers are connected
using data communications equipment (DCE) and a data terminal equipment
(DTE) serial cable. Back-to-back setups are useful in test environments. The
simplest and preferred method for configuring back-to-back setups is
described in this document.
A FR switch or DCE device is used between FR routers to provide Local
Management Interface (LMI) status messages. Because there is no switch in a
back-to-back scenario, LMI processing is disabled on both routers.

You also can configure a back-to-back setup with one router providing LMI
status updates for the other. However, such a configuration is necessary
only if the LMI debugging messages are to be checked in a back-to-back
setup. In this case, LMI processing is not disabled and one side functions
as a hybrid FR switch by responding to LMI status enq. For more details on
this configuration, please see Back-to-Back Frame Relay Hybrid Switching.

In the sample configuration, the router connected to the DCE cable must
provide clocking. Router1 provides the clock at 64 kbps (clock rate 64000).

Hardware and Software Versions
To implement this configuration, you need the following hardware and
software components:
Cisco IOSĀ® Software Release 10.0 and later that supports FR encapsulation.
Two routers, each with an interface that supports FR encapsulation.
Note: The information in this document was taken from an isolated lab
environment. Make sure you understand the potential impact of a command on
your network before you use it.
This configuration was developed and tested using the software and hardware
versions below.

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(2).
Cisco 1604 routers.

All the best,
Yeti-GBR1 aka A complete Lunatic

Re: Router problem inserting into token ring [7:33304]

2002-01-26 Thread Jonathan Mian

Is the ring completed on the MAU, IE do you have a patch lead in the RI RO
to complete the ring?

I had a similar issue using a MAU which had a similar description as yours,
I sused it finally...used one patch lead in RI RO...Bingo it all works.

As Charlles said make sure there both either 4 or 16MB speed.
