Juli,
Make sure you don't have bridging turned up on the IBM, spanning tree may
be
shutting down one of the ports.

Hi palomar,

The switch is simply connected with two networks segment. There is no
Inter-VLAN routing or EtherChannel! So the Catalyst is actived with no
configuration when connected with other switch the router can. Only with
CIsco Catalyst the one of the router IBM port come to block state. Do you
have experience connect 2 cisco router port then connect them to one
Catalyst?? Thanks alot for sharing.

Hi Group,

Today I passed the Cisco IP Telephony Exam.I used the cisco Press book by
David Lovell and I had a bad experience with this book. The cover page of
the
book is misleading as it says prepare for IP telephony Certification with
this
book.
To my experience this book is not sufficient for passing the exam as it
does
not cover all the topics probed in the exam.
There is PDF on IP telephony design guide on cisco's web site,I feel the
book
is a copy of that. The design guide has more than what is covered in this
book.I feel spending $60 on this book is not worth as same information you
can
find on
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/ip_tele/network/.

About the exam,It has 70 questions, passing score is 699 and have 2 hrs to
answer them.I used cisco site extensively for preparing for this exam.

Re: Difference between firewall router and pix firewal [7:58267]

2002-11-28 Thread Juli Hato
Halo Link Teo,

Stateful Packet Filtering as CIsco PIX Firewall has is filtering method that
considers the state of the TCP sessions. Also known as Context-Based
Access Control (CBAC). The benefit is offer strong security by throughly
inspecting data packets and maintaining critical addresses and port numbers
in a lookup table.

Choose the Cisco IOS Firewall:
1. One-box solution combining powerful security and multiprotocol routing.
2. Scalability to operate in different Cisco IOS environments with various
performance requirments.
3. Easy training and maintenance.
4. Extra protection integrated into the network infrastucture.

Choose The PIX Fireall when:
1. Device dedicated to security.
2. Very fast encryption and VPN.
3. Authentication and Authorization using RADIUS or TACACS+
4. THe need of URL filtering

What is stateful firewall? Stateful firewall = packet filtering firewall?

Re: How can PIX notify us when primary is down? [7:57342]

2002-11-13 Thread Juli Hato
Hi Sim,

You can configure PIX Firewall send the message to a syslog server when the
Active PIX in failover down, then the configure the syslog server to notify
admin via e-mail.

To make two PIX Firewall in Failover you need:
1. PIX IOS vers 5.0 or later to run Statefull Failover
2. Two PIX must be same IOS version and same hardware.
3. PIX 515, 525, 535.
4. Feature-based license key with Failover feature support.

You can take out the secondary PIX, but the failover do not work in your
network.

Whether the secondary PIX is cheaper in price. Do we need to install the

The DHCP is for people who do not have a DHCP server on their network. At
some companies not everyone needs to go out on the internet. Therefore, 50
users could and everyone on your 100 user network can get an ip address.
Remember licensing is pure profit. The unrestricted is the cheapest way in
the long run but it all depends on your budget as to how you want to go.

This is a simple solution. Do this:
static (inside,perimeter) 192.168.11.0 192.168.11.0 netmask 255.255.255.0
This will make the pix acts like a router with traffic from 192.168.11.0 to
communicate with 192.168.23.0; however, you have to make access-list to
allow
network 192.168.23.0 to talk back to 192.168.11.0 because perimeter has
lower
security level than the inside interface.

  Guruprasad Sanjeevi wrote:Hi group,

LAN (inside) : 192.168.11.0
DMZ (perimeter)) : 192.168.23.0
Outside:66.x.x.x

Problem : users from Inside and Perimeter network are able to browse, but
the inside and Perimeter network cannot talk to each other. I have given
the
static command like this

Static(inside, perimeter) 192.168.23.0 192.168.11.0 0 0

What other command is required on the PIX to enable communication from
INSIDE network to DMZ(perimeter) and vice-versa.

Please help

I have a 3620 that's functioning as a RAS server. We have issues with
connection speed for dial up users. They're getting below 28k. We're
currently running 2720 for the MICA firmware. I found and download 2740
firmware and would like to update, but according to the documentation on
the
TAC spe is only available to AS5X00's. How do I update the 3620? If you
point me to an article or give me something step by step I'd be most
grateful. Thanks.

It took me 5 months to complete my CCNP. At the time I was working the
grave shift (11:30 - 7:30) doing mainly maintenances and alerts. In
otherwords no study time at night, we were fairly busy, though the job gave
me no end to hands on experience.

  Congratulations Dan

I felt the same very similar about the CIT ... But then I thought maybe
I
just didn't pay attention in the first place :)

A question I'd like to throw out if you don't mind entertaining me is
this
:)How many of you's on this list has achieved CCNP/IP/DP or CCIE written
in
the last four months and how long did it take you to achieve the
complete
  cert or the written.

It took me about three months to get this. Of course I was sitting
around
for the last year doing nothing at all. I had all these books on the
shelf
including a lot of CCIE level books and I was intimidated by them.
Didn't

Well, I just passed support and completed CCNP in one not-so-swift move.
Without breaking the NDA I will say many of the questions were VERY
nondescript as to what they were asking for. I really believe I passed
because I got some lucky guesses on some of the questions. I read MANY
of
the questions repeatedly without ever finding out what they meant.

hi Hato,

I think you have to attache your module/Router to ground wire.
I have the same problem before and after I connected the router to
grounding
( by copper wire attache to a water pipe ) the problem is solved.
there is no problem in the configuration.

Good Luck;

Bset Regards,

Muhannad

Whenever I try to run the documentation cd, a browser window comes up with
about:blank in the url and that's it. Is this a known problem? How do
work
around/fix it? FYI, I'm running IE 5.5.

Thanks,
Sean

Juli,

I don't think that analog modems can pick the call
coming through E1 port. How is port configured ?
Send configs, I've done E1/R2, E1/PRI, and 8AM
(but connected to analog phone lines).

   Hi Everyone,

For those who are interested in learning Cisco PIX but
do NOT want to spend a lot of money on buying an
expensive PIX Firewall, I think I can help you. I
have instructions on how to build a PIX firewall by
using a PC. In case you didn't know, PIX firewall is
essentially a PC with multiple interfaces. I've
successfully built several PIX firewall using my old
PCs (i.e. pentium 200 MHz processor). Actually, the
PIX1 series (obsolete I know) is a PC with Intel
EtherExpress Interface cards. However, you must have
an account with CCO in order the software and download
the software. The rest of the instructions on how to
build a PIX firewall using PC is very simple. Anyone
interested in learning it, let me know.
