clearing cef stats on an interace [7:55555]

2002-10-14 Thread W. Kevin Hunt

Any body know how to clear cef stats on an interface?
I need to be able to clear the counters showed by the command
sho int serial4/2 stats

We've got an interface that seems to be process switching 80% of it's
traffic and we're trying to nail down why.

Looking for experiences with 7500 and POSIP [7:54486]

2002-09-29 Thread W. Kevin Hunt

We are adding an OC3 to our network due to a recent contract w/ a large web
hosting company. We are looking at using the POSIP card. The contract
requires that they have the ability to saturate the OC3 w/o dropping any
packets. I am worried that my 7500 w/ a vip2-40 will start dropping packets
under heavy load, there are 3 other DS3 interfaces on the router that are at
about 60% utilization. Has anyone here had any experience w/ this
combination that can give me some pointers. I'm trying to not have to buy
this card just to move to a 12000 in a month because it's dropping packets.

Recommendation on Ramp;S lab boot camp [7:51746]

2002-08-20 Thread Kevin Hunt

I'm looking to hear any experiences people have had with any of the RS boot
camps. My lab date is Dec. 9 and I'm looking to attend a camp in Oct. or
Nov. I was impressed with GlobalNet's CCNP boot camp, but would like some
input regarding the other camps available, especially the 5 day camps as to
whether or not it is enough time to get a good grasp on the lab.

2 T1's to our provider [7:49039]

2002-07-17 Thread W. Kevin Hunt

We are upgrading to 2 T1's to our provider, Fractional DS3 is prohibitively
expensive in our rural area.
Has anyone done any speed comparisons on using round robin style static
routes
(i.e. 2 default routes w/ same cost) versus EIGRP's load balanceing versus
running MLPPP on the Serial interfaces? We're currently using a 2621 but are
open to bigger routers.

Re: blocking spam with cisco routers [7:48971]

2002-07-17 Thread W. Kevin Hunt

I wouldn't even think of using a router for this purpose unless you are only
using smtp mail between your own sites and don't want outside email f/
anywhere.
We run spamassasin (www.spamassasin.org) on our mail server and it cuts out
80-90% of our SPAM.

Hi all I have a question ,I configured my e-mail server to only accept

Do they do it by access-list? Allowing only the local network with port
  25?
  Or just the e-mail server?
If cisco routers have to be involved does anyone have some links. Im
behind a pix and would like to allow only my network to use smtp.

Network layer filtering can't really do much to prevent relaying; it
has to be done in the SMTP application. The techniques that I'm
 familiar with include:
 1) Disallow mail sent to non-local (different domain) addresses unless
the SMTP source is within the local domain, as resolved in a reverse
DNS.
This is simple but prevents one from sourcing mail while traveling,
using a different ISP, at work, etc.
 2) Same as #1 but require U/P authentication for outgoing mail.
 3) Same as #1 but indirectly authenticate by correlating an outgoing
mail connection with a recent successful POP3 fetch, which naturally
requires a U/P. My DSL ISP, Speakeasy, does this and it works quite
well. If you attempt outbound mail without having done a POP fetch
in the last several minutes, an error message tells you that you must
do that first.

And BTW, none of these reduce spam, only the relaying of it!

Re: IGRP OSPF mask issue [7:46187]

2002-06-12 Thread W. Kevin Hunt

I assume you mean eigrp not igrp, if you are using igrp, remember it's
classfull and takes the default mask, eigrp is classless...
you'll probably need to do some summarization also...
if I see the configs I can fix it in 2 seconds...

 Hi ,

Is anyone there to help me out on mask issue betwn OPSF and IGRP. I shud
not
use static and default routes to carry routes from OSPF to IGRP. I hv
several routes from OSPF with different mask, say /22, /21, /24, /30 . But
my igrp interface is configured for /24 mask. so is there any other
solution
for this , other than static and default.

RE: Looking for people preparing for BCMSN 650-504Exam [7:44731]

2002-05-22 Thread Kevin Hunt

I passed switching today. Will pass Support tomorrow and then I'll be a NP.
This test is more theory than any others and there are at least 15 gimmee
questions that would be better served on a CompTia N+ test. There are about
12 really hard questions, and the rest are not very difficult if you know
the material. REALLY know the difference's between the command's on CatOS
and IOS. REALLY know VTP, trunking, etc
It's longer but easier than routing and remote access.

RE: no lmi - dlci inactive - telco says my problem? [7:44709]

2002-05-22 Thread Kevin Hunt

What router/ios are you running?
IOS 11.2 and above will autodetect the LMI type.
If you're IOS is lower you'll need to get the telco to tell you what kind of
LMI their frame switch is using and then set that type on the interface.
Have you set the encapsulation type to frame-relay on the interface?

Password Recovery on a 2924XL-A

2000-12-27 Thread Kevin Hunt

I just bought a 2924XL-A off ebay and the password recovery method
listed on cisco's site doesn't work. I hold down the mode key, boot up
the switch, get the switch: prompt, type in init_flash, then
load_helper, then when I do a dir flash I get this message
"unable to stat flash/: permission denied"

Any ideas?
