Re: Network latency [7:40295]

2002-04-03 Thread Larry Youngquist

Solarwinds Engineer's Edition (http://www.solarwinds.net/tools.htm) also has
their Network Monitor.

or, if you want to go hog wild and have the budget for it, InfoVista
(http://www.infovista.com/products/products.asp) would do the trick.
IV supports proxy pings between routers, will collect all metrics from
appropriate MIB's, Netflow statistics, SAA agents, etc, and merge them into
a data warehouse for later analysis. Very robust and complete system.

Re: Rack [7:38796]

2002-03-19 Thread Larry Youngquist

I found a small 19" rack that is intended for audio gear at Radio Shack.
It's about 3' tall and the top half is angled at about 30 degrees.
Great for a few routers and switches. It was a discontinued item and
they sold it off of the floor for $50.

My wife wasn't going for the 7' model for a couple 2501's!

CCNP Foundations Exam [7:38484]

2002-03-15 Thread Larry Youngquist

I recently completed my first step and got my CCNA.I've got quite a bit
of experience, but had never ventured down the Cisco certification track
before. I'm curious if there are any opinions about taking the combined
Foundations exam or taking the individual exams for routing, switching and
remote access.

The obvious advantages of less time and less money are appealing, but I'm
concerned that the large amount of information and topics could be
overwhelming.

Anyone that has taken the Foundations wished they would've taken the exams
one at a time?

Or, anyone that took the three individually, think that the combined test
would've been the better approach?

My ultimate goal is not as a CCIE, but a CSS1. Any opinions would be
appreciated.

Re: Network Management [7:38197]

2002-03-13 Thread Larry Youngquist

You could use a front-end tool to enable a proxy ping. Solarwinds provides
such a program.

http://www.purenetworking.net/Products/SolarWindsPE/ProxyPing.htm

Is this what you meant? Other packages like InfoVista also support proxy
pings and the collection/reporting of the results.
