I agree your not helping us by sharing the exact question on the test but you could open up a focus on a particular area that we all could hit on as a group. :-) Say Token Ring and RIF's thats were I need lots of work if you can believe it. Can VOIP work with the CAT5505's? I checked my switch and the set port aux isn't in there. MG wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Cisco Switches have the ability to have 2 vlans on a single port. From: Joseph Malin Date: 2002/09/04 Wed PM 05:26:17 EDT To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: VOIP and subnets [7:52688] John, One of the advantages of most IP phones is that you only need to run one connection per office. To facilitate this, IP phones often contain a two port hub or switch (one port to for LAN and the other for a user's computer.) In this scenario, the phone is in the same VLAN as the user's PC. As long as your network does not get too congested and especially if you have QoS capable switches, this should work fine. However, if you really want to spend time running twice as many connections and using twice as many ports, the phones and the PBX would be very happy on their own VLAN. -Joe FYI: Cisco mentions both options in: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/ip_tele/avvidqos/qosph one.htm -Original Message- From: John Brandis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, September 04, 2002 4:31 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: VOIP and subnets [7:52688] Hi All, planning for my new corporate network, i have decided that the company needs 8 different networks to work efficiently, all vlans are class c's, such as 10.64.0.0 -10.64.7.254 I have planned this well, and have a plan to fit into my OSPF design. Today, just found out, that my company has just purchased 500 nec ip phones and the appropriate PBX. Be sure to keep you Mb and your MB straight when speaking of hard drive speeds I have an older (a couple of years old) Western Digital 7200RPM 30GB drive that I record and edit video on, and it gets around 26MBytes/sec throughput on read and around 24Mbytes/sec on writes. Virtually all modern IDE drive can easily top 100Mbps (12.5MBytes/sec) any good drive made in the last couple of years (7200RPM) can usually read and write (sustained throughput) up to and over 25 to 30Mbytes/sec (200-240Mbps or more). And this is just a single drive if you have a server with RAID5 kicking, you could theoretically fully utilize 1Gbps, however, the bus in the PC (sever) usually become the bottleneck at that point (even the 64-bit PCI bus that most high end servers (even running at 66MHz) can only handle 512Mbps of throughput, so getting a full 1Gbps throughput from a PC is basically out of the question AFAIK).
