2001-05-10 Thread Okuwa, Daley

Hi ,

Larry If you have Cisco Works 2000 RME you can schedule a job to perform
any command on any router at a particular time or alternatively you can
write a script(unix shell) that will telnet into a router and perform a
command and then schedule the script at a particular time.

RE: Monitoring Network

2001-03-08 Thread Okuwa, Daley

Jorge ,

Is it possible for Cisco netflow analyzer to break down traffic into SAP
traffic ORACLE traffic by port number i mean application breakdown although
we have been partly succesfull in breaking it into ftp, http and the rest.We
actually use traffic accountant module on Concord Network Health to provide
this chart . I mean that traffic accounting collecting the info on cisco
netflow on a unix box and displaying it in a graphical form.We have tried to
have application breakdown but has not been successful This is the
recommendation of our client

Hello all,
YES, we are using Netflow Analyzer in my Company. We've been using it for
just one month and we still don?t dominate it.
What?s the question?
If anyone else have it, we can try to work together in order to solve the
doubts that come through.
Although we still don?t dominate it, it seems to be pretty powerful.

Man- I'd say Netflow, but of granular stuff you would want statistics,
protocols, top talker, etc., etc. Really- you are kinda decribing something
that is done best with an RMON probe or a field of RMON probes. You would
always have a device to measure @ the point (say firewall) where the
Internet & Intranet seperate (test the percentages, if you are truly an

Yes CWS2000 & NetFlow I have not used.

Good Luck

Duncan Stuart <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> asked,

>based billing.

The whole area of usage-based, or consumption-based, pricing is
complex. People that want it often totally ignore the cost of
tracking usage. In the early days of Cisco IP accounting, I was
always amused when a group would demand detailed accounting, which
would flip them into process switching, and then watch as they had to
buy more routers (and more directly connected lines) to get adequate
CPU power.

Some of your project managers may be suffering from the same
motivation that runs through many US government procurement
regulations: the cost of billing and accounting workload is
irrelevant when compared to the risk that some organization will be
underbilled or overbilled by one cent.

Ignoring some fairly bleeding-edge strategies such as WAN bandwidth
brokerage, assuming you are not using dialup or ISDN, how can the
users claim they shouldn't be billed for bandwidth when their access
lines are dedicated?

There are lots of alternatives to router-based accounting. Consider
using server transaction counts, when you know who is originating
them and how much bandwidth each transaction consumes. Alternatively,
bill by the number of hosts, if you know the typical host workload.

Well Arvind, I would reprobate if I did not point out the fact that
VitalSuite (which is the industry leader in Performance Managent Tools over
40% and is also where the QIP product can found to boot!), is an excellent
tool for managing bandwidth, monitoring SLAs, etc. Have you checked it out
yet? If not here is a link that you and the group may find interesting:

Take a look and see if this is something you are interested in, I would be
curious to get your opinion on it as the entire groups!

According to the Cisco web site, the equipment in use for the R/S exam
currently is:

Equipment List
* 2500 series routers
* 2600 series routers
* 3600 series routers
* 4000 and 4500 series routers
* 3900 series token ring switches
* Catalyst 5000 series switches

One might use a bit of indirection in determining specifics by reading the
blueprint. For example, the blueprint calls for voice over IP. One might
guess that the 26xx and/or the 36xx have some voice modules.

As for where you can get this stuff, everyone here knows the answer ( right
Brad? )

that we could have a pretty good simulation for everything required by
CCIE lab tests. What are the equipments used in the real CCIE lab?

Thanks very much!

Hello Everyone,
  I have a couple of naive questions from a c.e. student. I could'nt help
noticing that everyone seemed to at least have an MCSE before attempting the
cisco route. Is this highly essential to succeed?

I have always been more or less a command line nut, hence Linux has always
been a pass time hobby, so I wonder, would this be somewhat similar?

Unfortunately, my networking knowledge is basically at the bottom of the
scale, since I am just at the ethernet level of networking such as the
setting up of multi-homed machines, etc, hence I have been trying to learn
all I can about basic networking, i.e. , hubs, bridges , switches,
cabling, etc, before actually purchasing a router.

Also, I have done a lot of helpdesk type work and some hands on, but it's
mostly been desktop related.

 So, basically,to cut matters short, could someone advise me on this path:

1) Mastery of Basic Networking
2) MCSE or (Routers and CCNA, etc)

Thank you
 Adedapo Ola, MCP

 On another note, If I am permitted, I noticed some folks were job hunting
for cisco entry level. If it's at least experience that's vital, here's a
link for five Junior level cisco
job openings, I think it's through a recruiter though, but, hey the
experience is what matters.
