2501 Integration. [7:70594]

2003-06-12 Thread Rajagopal Iyengar
Dear all,

Hello all.I am working for an ISP.We give Shared Internet connectivity to
the Home Segment.I have got a MUX which has an E1 connected to it.Then there
is a channel Bank through which the 64 KBPS DSL Modems are connected. From
the RJ-45 in the modem additional Hubs are being connected through which
the home segment is catered apart from persons who want dedicated 64 KBPS
connectivity. Thats my Network.
The issue that I have is that all the modems are scattered and this makes
troubleshooting very difficult. So we are thinking of consolidating the
Modems at the data center from there connecting them to the required hubs
spread across a radius of 500 meters.
My network Design:

ISP-E1--MUXMUX---Channel Bank---20 64 kbps DSL Modems
with RJ-45-Connected to Various Hubs---Distributed to various
homes.

I have a few questions that I would like the group to answer:
1.Is my network design in order? If not please give me suggestions.
2.If I want to consolidate the modems at the data center what has to be
done.
3.Can I remove the channel bank.Use a Output from the Mux connect it to a
switch and spread it to the various modems??
4.I have an old 2501.How can I integrate it to my network??

I have read a lot of stuff but never have had the oppurtunity to implement
the stuff.So I am stuck.Please help.
Thanking you all in advance.Your help is very much appreciated.

Re: Cisco cert [7:70233]

2003-06-07 Thread Rajagopal Iyengar
Dear all,

I would like to add that as long as you are a CCIE its irrelevant becuase
you are among the few who has that Internetworking Expert tag with you.Even
though there are a lot of Boot camps lots of resources that are available
for you to gain the knowledge to pass the most difficult certification. But
it should also be remembered that its the person who has earned it has gone
through the grind to get it.It takes atleast 6 months of dedicated
preparation to atleast pass the Lab on the first attempt.I would like to ask
one Question aren't most of the Network Engineers have an Engineering Degree
as their Basic qualification does that mean that the value of the degree
goes down??Even though u might be a CCIE# 2.Aren't you among the few of
best knowledgble people in the networking Arena??And more over you also get
paid for it +Job Gurantee.
Please consider the above mentioned view points.

You think that it is possible to have all certifications Cisco, and to be
an
 expert on all technologies?

Because I really wonder if that is worth the sorrow the CCIE in 2003,
prestige is not there any more.

Will too many resources, too much bootcamp, too many offers to become
CCIE... that give what in 5 years?

Perhaps it is interesting to have other certifications Cisco, which will
 have perhaps more recognition.

In the sense that to be well recognized, several high level certifications
would be perhaps better. Because CCIE RS, the answers of the written exam
are not hard to find. Testking, Troytech, CorrectExam, RealQuestions, lot
of
braindump etc... just them to retain and you have the written exam. On the
other hand, it is harder to find the answers for other certifications
(CCIE
 Security, SNA, CCIP etc...)

By having all certifications, perhaps one will be a truth gourou
networker..

 If this possible...

 Dear All

I am planning to take my CCIE written exams in near future.

I have a few queries regarding the depth of knowledge required for the
 written exams on certain topics.

 1. ATM -- Do they go on for asking on config of ATM on Cisco ATM
switches
or focus is on using ATM as a layer 2 tech. and configuring the routers
to
 use ATM VC's

 2. All Tpoics covered under Multiservice in CCIE Blueprint i.e

 Voice/Video (H323)
 codecs
 SS7
 RTP
 RTCP
 SIP
 MPLS

As few of this topic requires a five day course in itself esp MPLS

I would also like to know any good reference material for following topics
 covered under WAN

 WAN
 1. ISDN (LAPD, BRI/PRI framing, signaling, mapping, NI1s, dialer map,
 interface types, B/D channel, channel
 bonding)
 2. Frame Relay (LMIs, DLCI, PVC, framing, traffic shaping, FECN, BECN,
CIR,
 DE, Mapping, compression)
 3. X.25 (addressing, routing, LAPB, error control/recovery, windowing,
 signaling, mapping, SVC/PVC, Protocol
 Translation)
 4. ATM (PVC/SVC, AAL, SSCOP, UNI/NNI, ILMI, Cell format, QoS, RFC 1483,
 PNNI, mapping)
 5. Physical Layer (Synchronization, SONET, T1, E1, encoding)
 6. Leased Line Protocols (HDLC, PPP, Async modems, compression)
 7. PoS
 8. DPT/SRP

Your feedback on same would be really helpfull.

 Regards
 Swapnil Shah

There is one problem the 2620 can't handle 2 MB of voice traffic. That is
why my provider is giving us another 2620 to offload the traffic to
another
router. How should I set this configuration? Thanks

I assume now if you look at your routers config, there is a line that
 starts
 with something like:
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0, and the next argument would either be the
interface name the e1 connects to or the ip address on the isp's side of
 the
e1. In the event you get a second e1 from the same provider, the easiest
way to do it is to get both e1s on the same router on your side and on
the
isp's side, then add a second ip route statement like the one above, with
the interface you add the second e1 to as the last argument. If you have
a
2620 router, they have 2 wic slots, so youd just need to obtain an e1 wic
for the other slot, then connect it like you did the first. So, suppose
 you
had 2 e1s hooked up at this point, all you'd need is, assuming the
 interfaces are serial0 and serial1:

 ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 s0
 ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 s1

   Hi Brian,

Sounds like a good solution, but how do split the traffic between the
 serial
ports. How do I split the bandwidth between two 2620 routes? Many
 thanks!

Well you could take the easy way out and just get a second e1 with
the
 same
provider, assuming your router has an empty serial interface, and
 default
route to both links, that'll usually work fine. Depending on your
 router
youll need to either get a card with an integrated csu, or an
external
 one.
If you want to bring in a different provider, that usually entails
bgp,
 see

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios121/121cgcr/ip_
 c/ipcprt2/1cdbgp.htm
for some info if you haven't read up.

 Dear All,

I have a problem with our ISP link. I am now approaching our E1
   bandwidth.
How can I upgrade my bandwidth? Do I need to add another CSU/DSU
 for
another E1? And If I apply for another ISP provider, how
configure
 my
   cisco
to switch to the other gateway when the other one is fully
utilize.
   Reason
is that the new ISP provider would give me a new set of IP. I
only
 want
   to
 use the bandwidth. Many thanks.

CCNA 20

2000-08-08 Thread Rajagopal Iyengar

Hi All,
I am Rajagopal from India.I am thinking of Pursuing CCNA 20 and I have found
out that Cisco Press has come out with two books which go as under:

1.ICND(exam No :- 640-507).
2.CCNA 20 Exam Preparation guide.

I am a little confused as to what book am I supposed to buy.
Please suggest which is a better book to buy out of these two.

If not these books are there any other books that are available in the
Market that satisfy the CCNA 20 Routing Switching Objectives.

Regards,

Rajagopal Iyengar.
