RE: sniffer training where?

2000-08-02 Thread Ryan Ward

I didnt get any sniffer training in CIT, all trouble shooting was done with
debug commands. Its a great class though lots of hands on labs.

A good source would be Sniffer University @ Network Associates

RE: VoIP books

2000-08-01 Thread Ryan Ward

One of the best VoIP books is

Voice over IP by Uyless Black
ISBN 0-13-022463-4

I found some of the best prices at booksamillion.com, pay the extra 5.00 for
the membership and the prices come down even more. Its pretty great!

RE: Sysco cert question

2000-08-01 Thread Ryan Ward

ok I was thinking of doing the exam but can anyone recommend the best books
or willing to give up the course material in exchange for a no name brand
ketchup bottle? Has anyone used the Boson practice tests?

also my boss pays me squat and need to know how much you condiment engineers
make blah blah blah ;)

do you thinking I can skip the SCCA and go straight for the SCCE, I only
have one month experience but I figure if I study enough ketchup packet
information I might be able to pass and get me a big 100k job with no
experience.

I need this information tomorrow, cuz I have an exam at the end of the week

heheheheh this is fun

I have been studying hard for the Sysco Certified Condiment Engineer 2.0
Exam.

Does anybody know how many ounces of ketchup are in one packet? How many
mustard packets will be distibuted on an hourly basis?

Does mustard always have to go into the yellow squeeze bottle?

Re: 3com??

2000-07-01 Thread Ryan Ward

The biggest connectivity issues are related to Auto-Sensing. Make sure that
you force the ports on the switch to what the end users have. Also on a
client side you might want to make it fixed as well. Auto-sensing in general
is a pain in the butt!

My experience with the 3Com SS switches is the following :
It dies - replace power supply
It freezes - replace switch/send for repair
ports die - replace switch/send for repair

Generally I must admit they work quite ok !

RE: Cisco Certified Salaries

2000-06-04 Thread Ryan Ward

FYI...

I know 2 guys both are fresh MCSE's and have 0 experience and they both got
jobs at 2 different companies, each are paying them 75k+ a year. I also have
a 3rd friend that has a job with 3Com, with only a MCSE and very little
experience, entry level came in at 70k and since got a couple of raises.

Chad,

With 3 months of experience what do you expect??? $150k/yr? You still need
to "prove" yourself. No offense, but the certs you have aren't very hard to
get. If you get overtime, that is a pretty cool...a lot of places won't pay
OT these days. Give yourself a year or two in the business. After that
experience, plus a CCNP you should be closer to $60-$70k /yr.

Keep chugging along!

I am a consultant for a small consulting firm. I have about 3 months of
(real experience. I used to do small consulting jobs on the side)
experience. I have earned my MCP, MCSE, CCNA, and CCDA. I am currently
persuing my CCNP. I make only 29,000 a year plus overtime. This seems low
to
me. I was wondering what anyone in a similar situation is making.

12 port Giga switch up for trade!

2000-05-28 Thread Ryan Ward

I know this isn't really the right question to ask here...

I am looking for a better news group or web site that I could advertise a
trade, anything for just network equipment? Not interested in Etrade or
other auction sites yet.

I have a 3Com 12 port GigaSwitch (Superstack II 9300) its in excellent
condition and runs on the latest version of software.

Retail price is around 9000.00 US or so. I just want to trade it out for
maybe 4 Cisco 2500's or maybe just 1 higher end Cisco router. Need em for my
lab :) Email me if interested [EMAIL PROTECTED]

You can find more info at

Re: Calculating bandwidth utilization

2000-05-27 Thread Ryan Ward

One of industry's best bandwidth utilization tools is freeware!

Its called MRTG, runs in NT or Solaris. I used it for a few years now. Works
great and most ISP's and NAPs use it

check out http://www.mrtg.org

 Hey,

Where can I find information on calculating the utilization on an
interface. Since I dont have any network management tools to use I want to
try to figure it out manually (if possible). Also are their any show
commands that show CPU and Memory resource utilization?

 Thanks,

 Pete
