RE: VLAN routing on 2600

2001-02-02 Thread Samuel Chen

If you want to do isl then you need a FastEthernet. That means you need a
2620 or 2621.
Do not use 1700's even they are FE.

Subject: NM-1E2W Module

Hi,

I have a 2600 cisco router and would like to purchase another ethernet
interface for the unit. I can find plety of NM-1E2W modules for sale, but
the description next to the item always says that it is for a 3600 router,
can anyone tell me if this module will work in a 2600 and if so how would I
have figured this out myself ?

Thanks

make your router as a DHCP client

2001-01-11 Thread Samuel Chen

Anyone know how to make a router become a DHCP client?

I try to make my Cable Modem (PPP) connection to connect with a router.
The Cable give me a Ethernet and I connect this to my 2501 Ethernet port.

RE: hsrp question..a tough one for me

2001-01-11 Thread Samuel Chen

Nope. Each router need one ip and the virtual ip will be all computer's
gateway. That means you need to use 3 ip addresses. You only have 11 to
use.

A question was recently posed:

Two routers-subnet for 12 hosts. Do hsrp.

naturally you assume a subnet for 14 hosts, one address each for router
a and b. then don't you need an address for the virtual ip for hsrp.
This only leaves 11 host addresses available.

My question was, "can you use one of the addresses from one of the
routers for the virtual ip address for hsrp". This would put you back
up to 12 host addresses.

Is this the right answer?

thanks,
bk

RE: make your router as a DHCP client

2001-01-11 Thread Samuel Chen

Yeah, The router can do the negotiation on Serial line on my 2501 and 2621
with 12.1.5.
The command is "ip add negotiated"
This command is new to me and it only on Serial Port. I need it on the
ethernet.

I also did a search on Cisco Doc. But it only tell me how to make your
router become a DHCP Server. Not the Client.

The static route will not work because you still need an ip address on the
ethernet. Plus, the ip address dhcp command is the command make your router
a DHCP Server. And it's trying to lookup the DHCP ip address pool to offer
on the ethernet.

It depends on what type of DHCP server your ISP is using. I tried to do
this with Cox and it would not work on my 2611.

Interface Ethernet0/0
ip address dhcp
!
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Eth0/0
!

RE: Voice and ATM for lab plus more.

2001-01-16 Thread Samuel Chen

Well, You need 2 x 3640 because you can buy the NM-1FE1R2W(This will take
care the FastEthernet ISL) then put the WIC-1T and WIC-B-U on this Network
module. Also, put the NM-1A-MM (will work with the LS1010) and the NM-2V
with 2FXS on this 2 3640. The token ring part you need a catalyst
3920.(It's on the CCIE Lab Exam). Buy a NP-1R, NP-2E and a few NP-4T for
your 4000 router. On the ISDN; look up Adtran Atlas 550. They have a combo
550 box($3100 on cnet.com) which come with 2PRI and 4BRI. With this Adtran
box, you can have all your isdn calling each other.

Subject: Voice and ATM for lab plus more.

First let me say any help would be appreciated.

I am attempting to set up a lab at my work. We have about 6 2501's, 1 2502
and 3 4000's, one of them useful having the 4 port serial module. So far I
have the 4000 as a frame switch and 4 connecting 2501's.. I also am going
to bring in the rest of the 2501's eventually.. I was told to go ahead and
buy what I need in what I feel is useful. (I am curious as to how far they
let me go with this). I know I need at least 1 more token ring, 2 bri
interfaces.. Voice, ATM.
I'm thinking:
2511
2620 with 2-port fxs int card
2610 with 2-port fxs int card - I'm wondering if these also need the Voice
interface cards...
2504 - tokenring and BRI
2503 - BRI
Catalyst 5000 or 2901

I was hoping to do ATM.. Maybe instead of the 2600's, use 3620 or 40 and
add Single-port 155-mbps ATM OC-3 MNM to each with a Lightspeed 1010.
(dreaming? I'm guessing the above modules will not be the optimal match.)
2 tokenring mau's..
We actually have 2 ISDN lines I hope to incorporate as well for the ISDN.

Any criticism/help would be appreciated. If this is the dumbest thing you
have ever seen, let me know... That is why I'm asking for help!!

Mike
