2001-03-20 Thread Sergio Silva

Hi Everyone
I was wondering if anyone out there has written the FRS Exam.
If so How difficult is it.
I have bought the Ver 1 Preparation Library and the Ver 2 Certification
Library.
Do you think this sufficient enough?
I will also be reading through Doyle's TCP/IP and Lan switching.

All your info will be greatly appreciated.

I got an 827. Not the greatest score but could have been worse. My weak
areas were OSPF and BGP (no big shock there since I don't work with either
of these on a day to day basis). The job I am in now is strictly supporting
an EIGRP environment. Overall, I did not think the test was terribly
difficult.

RE: SNMP Config [7:5648]

2001-05-24 Thread Sergio Silva

Hi

It is better to configure the trap interface to your logical interface such
your loopback, as it never goes down, it is not recommended to use your
serial interface as a trap interface as the line might drop.If you dont have
a loopback address range then I would recommend using the ethernet as it
would have less of a chance of going down in comparison to a serial line.

snmp-server trap-source (loopback 0)

Then there are two types of traps
Read Write
snmp-server community (snmp name) RW
Read Only
snmp-server community (snmp name) RO

And you must send a trap to your server address using the following command:

snmp-server host (ip address of server) traps (snmp name)

Hope this helps :-)

What we're dealing with here is a problem with Cisco documentation that goes
back centuries, and has never been corrected.

Split Horizon and Poison Reverse are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. They do not work
together, they are *alternatives*, similar to how ISL and 802.1Q are
alternatives which do pretty much the same thing.

With split horizon, if a router learns about a route from a neighbor on a
certain interface, it will not advertise that same route out that same
interface to that same neighbor.

In poison reverse, the router *will* advertise that same route out that same
interface to that same neighbor, but will jack up its hop count to 15 -
making it automatically unreachable.

Which is better? Not sure. I've heard that Poison Reverse is *slightly*
more efficient than Split Horizon, simply because poison reverse still
forces the receiving router to allocate memory space for the route it
receives, even if its hop count is 15. When the topology changes, all it
needs to do is change the hop count and the next hop address - but the route
itself is already in memory. Here's the funny thing: split horizon is the
default on Cisco routers. Bay routers use Poison Reverse by default.

CCIE#8387. What a journey/process this has been and I must say that I'm

the "rack" the reward was most definitely worth the sacrifice.

I didn't sleep a any last night as I awaited the results of my lab score

I was unable to check until 12 noon today. So on that note I'm off to catch

More to follow once I get rested up..

Because, offhand, I have only seen you bringing up the issue of
people bringing up general management and tying it to power and
money. Tradeoffs in the technical area of the value of certifications
vs. academic training, especially early in one's career, seemed to be
the scope of the original discussion. To the best of my knowledge,
this list has never emphasized how to use technical skills to
springboard into general management.
