Re: what does no logging console mean? [7:1708]
Beth No logging console prevents messages logged to the console. You can also restrict messages logged to the console based on severity by using the command - logging console . You probably have central syslog server/s where you are logging the information. You can see that by looking for the following commands in your config -- logging ; where host is the name or the IP address of the syslog server. Also - the logging level by default is set to 6 (maximum - 7) Error Message Logging Priorities Level Arguments LevelDescription Syslog Definition emergencies 0 System unusable LOG_EMERG alerts1Immediate action needed LOG_ALERT critical 2Critical conditions LOG_CRIT errors3 Error conditions LOG_ERR warnings 4Warning conditions LOG_WARNING notifications5 Normal but significant condition LOG_NOTICE informational6Informational messages only LOG_INFO debugging 7Debugging messages LOG_DEBUG Hope this help Raj :) beth shriver wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Re: access list rearrange? [7:861]
Scott - my experience has been that access lists are NEVER re-arranged. I would not believe the book. I have the book you are talking about - I'll refer the errata for the book from their website (if they have it). But, again, my understanding is - the IOS will never re-arrange the access list the way "it" thinks is right. Also - I am looking at the example you provided but don't see why the new "re-ordered" one is better?? Thanks Raj "Scott Meyer" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... It's what I spent this weekend starting to learn about. Bleh, I hate old/dead technology that no one I know uses. I'm just glad it's off the lab. I think it's time to purchase or find a good Token Ring overview book. I've read a lot of current docs from Cisco's site, but nothing that really goes back to the beginning and gives a good foundation and good examples to make all this stuff stick in my head. I know a lot of it is just going to be re-reading the docs and definitions a few times until it just sinks in, but often I can find books that do a better job of describing a subject and it speeds the process along. Re: BGP Commands [7:708]
Here is my understanding of the difference. Hope it helps. Show ip bgp shows you the "potential routes". This is showing you the routes that are in the BGP "forwarding table". This is what BGP knows about (sometime referred to as RIB). These are the potential routes to be injected into your routing table (show ip route bgp). Your routing decision will be made from what you know in your "routing table" - the one you can view by "Show ip route bgp" command. Hope this helps (and not confuse you more). :) Raj "Hunt Lee" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Re: BGP Commands [7:734]
Hunt, When you do the show ip bgp command - it shows you a lot of information on the top (status codes, origin code etc etc...). The status code "*" indicates that it is one of the valid paths and "" indicates that it is the best path. Hope this helps. Check it out, it starts with basics and gives you good information on BGP along with the configuration. Take care Raj :) "Hunt Lee" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Please help. Regards, Hunt Lee IP Solution Analyst Cable and Wireless You are dealing with two tables, at the very least. Some are conceptual or stored as part of other tables. Let me work through the flow. Incoming BGP updates, before filtering, go into the Adj-RIB-In After filtering, which is primarily on a per-peer basis, the remaining updates go into a BGP-only table called the Loc-RIB. This table contains all the BGP potential routes that passed acceptance filtering, and is router-wide. It also indicates which are the "best" BGP routes to a given destingation. "show ip bgp" displays the Loc-RIB. Next, all "best" routes from the Loc-RIB are sent to the main IP routing table, where they compete with potential routes from all other sources. "show ip route" shows the active routes to all destinations. "show ip route bgp" shows the subset of those routes that was learned from BGP. An example: BGP has two routes to 172.16.1.0/24 and to 172.16.2.0/24. It picks a best route to each. Let's say that has a next hop of 192.168.1.1 Show ip bgp would show all four, with an asterisk on the two best. The two 172.16.1.0/24 and 172.16.2.0/24 routes, with a next hop of 192.168.1.1, are sent to the main routing table installation process. Assume that the router also has a static route with administrative distance 1 to 172.16.2.0/24. That has equal specificity to the second BGP route, but the administrative distance is more preferred. When you do a "show ip route", you will see routes to both destination, but with a static source to 172.16.2.0 and a BGP source for 172.16.1.0. If you do a "show ip route bgp", you will only see the route to 172.16.1.0, because that is the only active route with a BGP source. Interesting Console issue [7:592]
Hi, Here is a fun scenario I have - maybe someone else had that too. I am working on a lab with about 30 routers. All work fine (in terms of console) but two of the routers (26xx and 3640) dump weird funny characters after the initial two lines upon booting. I thought it was the baud rate or any config issue (with config register) but nope. When I plugged in another PC with hyperterminal - both of those routers work fine. Its only ONE PC that has a problem with only those two router (can see other 28 or so routers/switches fine). Can you folks think of some reason - WHY ?? The settings are 9600, 8, N, 1 NO FLOW CONTROL (tried others and tried other baud rates - same thing). All config registers are set to 0x2102. The PC thats not working with those two routers is a SONY VAIO with Windows 98 (the other is Win 95 but that shouldn't matter). Any thoughts - please drop me a note Thanks in advance Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=592t=592 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
