RE: RFC 1149 is in use [7:3244]
I hope RFC 1149 isn't covered in the CCIE lab exam! Token Ring in Lab [7:1640]
I am fortunate enough to have 2 2514's in my home lab and I would like to utilize the token ring interface on each of these routers. However I do not have any other token ring hardware, No MSAUs, NICs or token ring switches. My question to the group is, how can I use these interfaces in my lab for CCIE study since I have nothing to connect them to? The obvious answer is to go out and by a 3900 token ring switch, but I have few dollars left to spend on my lab. Is there a way(cheap way) to loop back a token ring interface so I can at least get to an up/up state? Or is there a better way to use these interfaces? I have virtually no experience with token ring(besides the theory). I would appreciate any help. BGP Simulator [7:1087]
Is there such a thing as a freeware BGP simulator? BGP simulators run on PCs or Workstations and simulate an external AS and will form adjacency with routers. Router manufactures use the simulators to stress their products. But I'm unsure if the simulators are homegrown, commercial or freeware. I'm currently using a Linux system in my home lab and a BGP simulator would be a great addition to my network. RE: Douglas Comer
I have both books and I find the Stevens book to be very readable and informative. The Stevens book is by far superior. Stevens had a rare gift for explaining complex and obscure details in a very enjoyable style. One caveat though, the book uses the UNIX freeware command "tcpdump", so the book is best used in conjunction with a UNIX system on a live network. By using "tcpdump" the reader can view live network traffic and understand at a deeper level what the Author is trying to explain. The book explains how to get tcpdump. Better yet, if you have Linux or BSD it comes already installed! As for obtaining volume II(Comer or Stevens), get it only if you are willing to invest a lot of time on TCP/IP internals(i.e. you better know how to read C syntax). Volume II is not pertinent to the pursuit of the CC[IE/NP/NA] Certs. But if you want to know TCP/IP inside and out, this is where you go. RE: ATM Config
Kevin, Not sure with out seeing your config but try mapping the destination address of the PVC: int ATM2/1 ip address 220.1.1.1 255.255.255.0 atm pvc 10 0 32 aal5snap map-group trythis ! map-list trythis ip 220.1.1.2 atm-vc 10 -Scott -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Kevin Wigle Sent: Tuesday, September 26, 2000 11:01 AM To: cisco Subject: ATM Config and while I'm asking getting lots of use out of the lab here.. I've got 3 4700/4500s with an ATM interface, a 7505 with ATM and an LS-1010. Using a config from Hutnick, I can't seem to get connectivity. On page 287 for the cmd "sh atm vc", Status is shown as "ACTIVE". I only see "UP". Also, I can't ping from one ATM router to the other. On the LS-1010, I see "UpAndNormal" for the ILMI state and "Idle" for the SSCOP state. Sitting on any router, (telnet in) I cannot ping the ATM interface of that router, but I can ping any other address on the router as well as stuff on the lab network. Any thoughts? No special config here, bare bones just trying to get from router to router over ATM. tia Kevin Wigle **NOTE: New CCNA/CCDA List has been formed.
