I don't want to sound like a broken record (again!); however, I suggest
you download all
the documentation from www.juniper.net and read it from cover to cover
(about 4000 pages
in all). After that, you need to get your hand on the Olive code (this
is JUNOS that runs
on a PC box (very much similar to BSD OS) and play with it for a few
months. After that,
you should be ready for the JNCIS exam (similar to Cisco CCIE written
exam). As far as
the JNCIE lab exam is concern, I haven't actually met one JNCIE yet;
however, one of the
Juniper Resident Engineer (RE) who supports us here at Qwest told me that
there are only
currently eight(8) JNCIE at the moment. From what the Juniper RE told
me, by the way,
he is also a CCIE and ex-Cisco employee, the JNCIE lab is very
difficult. You know what,
I really believe him because based on my personal experience, the Juniper
written exam is
much more difficult than the CCIE written and even though there are only
73 questions, you
have to get 80% to pass. If you are not strong in OSPF, BGP, IS-IS and
especially MPLS,
you will have absolutely NO chance of passing the exam. I passed the
exam with a bare
minimum. I sign up for the JNCIE in October; however, I think my chance
of passing the lab
is about 0.0%. Another thing, you might wonder about Juniper training.
Right now, Juniper
does offer training but it won't be enough for you to pass the exam
either. Trust me, every
questions that are on the exam come from the 4000 pages of documentation.
Have fun reading.
