Ken,

PIM messages are sent multicast, either to 224.0.0.2 or 224.0.0.13 
depending on the PIM version.

PIM Joins are sent periodically, every 60 seconds.

Hello,

I have two questions here on the above.

Are PIM joins sent multicast or unicast.  Some docs says it's unicast, but I
see it as multicast in my trace.

Also, If a flow maintains state for a period of time, do PIM-Join messages
get sent periodically to the RP or root of the source, if so how often?
