I've actually done this with a pair of 515's by disabling failover.  Not 
only did it work, I was able to setup a VPN between the two as well.  Cisco 
states that this should not work, so it is probably not a supported 
configuration.  Furthermore, it breaks the licensing agreement.

 If the failover (backup) PIX is licensed as a failover, can't be used
 in a stand-alone configuration - it only works as a backup.  If it has
 an unrestricted license, then it can work as a standalone.

PIX 520 question [7:12595]

Hi guys,
Let's say i have two 520s running failover.  Assuming that licensing isnt
a key issue here.  Can I just turn disable failover on the configuration
and take one pix out and use it as a normal pix?  So my question is, will
I end up having two pix'es ?  Thanks for any help.
