Re: BGP book

2000-11-22 Thread Donald B Johnson Jr

I have both editions but haven't had time to read the new one. I found it
mismarked or what I think was mismarked at borders for 30% off. There were 5
there and all marked the same so I grabbed one, even though it is a few
titles down on my list. I did read the 1st edition and want to know the
differences. Duck

Re: BGP book

2000-11-21 Thread Peter Van Oene

Although i haven' t read it (i probably should), I have to say that this is a very
highly referenced text in the internet community. I've seen in on many reading lists
and even more bibliographies.

I will say that Halabi's book is an excellent text. However, I wouldn't overlook
RFC's either. For example, 1771, BGPv4 is pretty readable and contains valuable
information.

Re: BGP book

2000-11-21 Thread John Neiberger

That book would be BGP4: Interdomain Routing in the Internet. And, if you
are new to BGP I would highly recommend it. It's the first book I read on
BGP and I found that the author adequately explained the material in a very
short amount of time. Reading that book prepared me to read Halabi's book.

I would suggest you have a good grasp of IP routing in general before you
read either of these books. Without an understanding of what you're trying
to accomplish, you'll never understand HOW to accomplish it.

My $.02 (and here in Colorado we DO know how to count)
