AFAIK, no. Cisco IDS was purchased from the Wheel Group and previously went by the name Netranger. And now it's OKENA as they are swapping out the OEM'd Entercept solution. Will Gragido CISSP CCNP CIPTSS CCDA MCP 9450 W. RE: Info about cisco IDS [7:66238]
The Cisco IDS uses Solaris Unix and has an interface that listens to traffic (promiscuous mode) but does not have an IP address assigned to it. The traffic is then compared to signatures for pattern matching. www.ccie4u.com Rack Rentals and Lab Scenarios -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of ritul Sent: Wednesday, March 26, 2003 7:12 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Info about cisco IDS [7:66238] Hi ! RE: Info about cisco IDS [7:66238]
Cisco is replacing all of the older Entercept models that you are referencing with the recently acquired OKENA line. OKENA (we were partners with them prior to the Cisco acquisition), was in the process of developing products for use on Unix/Linux platforms. Currently they only support W2K/NT. RE: Info about cisco IDS [7:66238]
But the impression I got of the Okena line is it's host based IDS versus network based like the Cisco IDS. How would Cisco integrate the host based IDS technology into a network based system?
