Re: Router Serial Number
Jake: show diag gives some serial numbers, but it's not supported under all IOS's (11.3 and higher, maybe?). RE: Router Serial Number
That's just a show version. And it does NOT tell you the serial number. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, January 12, 2001 1:06 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Router Serial Number try sho hardware ""Jake"" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message 93nmb0$1j3$[EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:93nmb0$1j3$[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Re: Router Serial Number
Hi It depends... I have never seen a chassis serial number in the IOS, however some of the higher end routers you can see the serial by using a show controller xxx. The serial number for the router is on a sticker on the "back" of the router, it has a bar code printed above/beloew it. Re: Router Serial Number
My suggestion to people is to set the snmp chassis-id variable to the serial number whenever you first touch a new router. -- Jason Roysdon, CCNP/CCDP, MCSE, CNA, Network+, A+ List email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://jason.artoo.net/ Cisco resources: http://r2cisco.artoo.net/ ""John Hardman"" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message 93o14j$i9u$[EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:93o14j$i9u$[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Re: Router Serial Number
Something we do in our network seems to work well, when you install a new router configure the 'snmp-server chassis-id' command to reflect the serial number of the router. RE: Router Serial Number
Yes, a good practice indeed. We also use the snmp-location variable extensively. -Original Message- From: J Roysdon [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, January 12, 2001 3:43 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Router Serial Number My suggestion to people is to set the snmp chassis-id variable to the serial number whenever you first touch a new router. -- Jason Roysdon, CCNP/CCDP, MCSE, CNA, Network+, A+ List email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://jason.artoo.net/ Cisco resources: http://r2cisco.artoo.net/ ""John Hardman"" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message 93o14j$i9u$[EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:93o14j$i9u$[EMAIL PROTECTED]...
