RE: VLAN on 1750 router [7:12024]

2001-07-24 Thread Peter Slow

I'd like to find out what the chipset on the two routers is.

to the best of my knowledge, the 1751 is a 1750 chassis.

can anyone get a show interfaces fas0 on each router?

no. the 1750's do not support isl.

The new 1751's do not support isl either, but they do support dot1q.

I thought you could, but checked the feature navigator on CCO
http://www.cisco.com/go/fn and it looks like a 2600 running IP Plus is the
lowest end router that would.

Mamoor,

To my knowledge, the only 1700 series router that supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN
is the 1751. The fast ethernet interface may require the encapsulation
dot1q command, rather than the encapsulation isl command.

Nope, you need a 1751 to do VLAN tagging. I'm not sure why this is,
honestly. I would assume that since the 1750 has a fast ethernet port,
the hardware ought to be capable of it, but cisco claims that the 1750
does not support tagging. They introduced the 1751 to address this issue,
among others.

Has anyone tried loading a 1751 image onto a 1750 to see if it's merely a
software thing?

Ben
