GYAHH.
NO
db-60 is NOT high speed serial.
everyone stop calling it that
there is no high speed serial wic.
high-speed serial == HSSI == NM-xH == (about 45 Mbits/s)
multi-function/regular serial == wic-xT, nm-xT  = 4 Mbits/s

and while we're on that, they arn't serial ports. they're seial interfaces
=P.

Wan Interface Card VWIC's are Voice Wan Interface Cards. It's kinda hard
to go anymore in-depth than that. This is what Cisco's named their
interface cards for the 1700/2600/3600 series routers. A WIC-1T is a single
DB60 High Speed Serial, WIC-1 ADSL would be an Asymmetrical DSL interface
card an NM-1E would be a single 10BaseT.

RJ,
It stands for WAN Interface Connection card.
These are add-on cards for molular routers such as 1600,1700,2600,3600, et
al.
There are different types of cards based on the connection you are wanting
to configure on the router.
Cisco's idea was to improve on the router's hardware configuration from a
fixed format to the modular in the above mentioned models to provide a
cost-effective solution to networks that are constantly changing their
campus designs from Frame Relay to ISDN to ATM, etc.
Instead of having to purchase a new router with the required new hardware
config, one can use the WIC's to mix and match with the existing modular
router's one owns in order to accomplish the desired custom hardware
configuration.

2001-06-25 Thread Daniel Cotts

Go to CCO and check on the routers that use modular interfaces such as the
2600, 3600, 1700, 1600 series. The smaller WAN cards are known as WIC cards.
Lot's to look at.
