RE: Which switch to buy for the lab [7:48788]

2002-07-15 Thread Jeffrey Reed

The WS-C3550-24-EMI has a list price of $4990. The WS-C3550-24-SMI has a
list price of $2995. The upgrade from SMI to EMI, PN:CD-3550-EMI=, costs
$1995. As a reseller, my price on the WS-C3550-24-EMI is about $3325. Since
I'm a small reseller, you may be able to purchase the WS-C3550-24-EMI from a
larger reseller around my cost and they can still make a few points.

There are other version of the 3550 that have 12 ports of Gig, but they list
for about $10k.

That's what I thought.

ccbootcamp.com's hardware site(optsys.net) is advertising brand new 3550s
for around $2300. That price leads me to believe that they are selling the
SMI version.

I'll call Brad on Monday and see what it is they are actually selling.

Thanks,
Al

2002-07-14 Thread Chuck

check out the following to get an idea of the street price for the various
flavors:

http://www.nextag.com/

do a search on Cisco 3550 and then check the price ranges shown.

street for the 3550-24-SMI runs 2000-2500, while street for the 3550-24-EMI
runs 3350-4300

That Auction Site has had a rash of people selling SMI switches with EMI
images. Yes there is a way to tell.

Al, I was in the CCIE Power session at Networkers on Friday and without a
doubt you need the EMI version. To use their words "They will now have a 24
port router". The EMI version is the only version that does Layer 3 switching.

The EMI will be used. The SMI/EMI switches are the same physically. It is
just a different IOS image.
