The RFC would be a great place to check :)

RIPv2 uses 224.0.0.9 RFC 2453

IGRP is Cisco's baby. I'd search cisco.com

RE: multicast address [7:50221]

2002-07-31 Thread Sanchez Steven

George,

As was stated earlier some routing protocols are broadcast while others are
multicast.

RIP Broadcasts to all hosts 255.255.255.255

IGRP is also broadcast.

RIP version 2 does not broadcast its updates but sends multicast updates
using 224.0.0.9

EIGRP multicasts using 224.0.0.10

So for RIP and IGRP there is no multicast address.

Best Regards,
Steven

You mean 224.0.0.5 and 224.0.0.6. Of note, not all Routing protocols are
multicast, and thus would not have a multicast address such as OSPF.

Search for INTERNET MULTICAST ADDRESSES in RFC 1700, the Assigned Numbers
RFC.

I use the RFC index here:

http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/cs/Services/rfc/rfc.html

It usually works, unless everyone hits it at once!
