Barry,

You can enable a trunk on the 3548, and create subinterfaces on the 3550 at
site A.
I don't know the exact configuration details about a 3550, but it should be
something like:

interface gigabitethernet 0/2
no switchport
!
interface gigabitethernet 0/2.10
