I have used the CIM, and it seems to work ok as a study tool, and a little
in the workplace. They are somewhat expensive-in that I feel that you should
get more content with them. Roy

2002-01-04 Thread Brad Ellis

I received a comp. copy from Pearson (Cisco Press) to review. I havent
typed up a formal review (like the one I just completed for CCIE Practical
Studies Volume 1 by Karl Solie), but I have played with it a little.
Biggest problem I found with the CIM is that it only takes the commands that
it uses for the labs it is simulating. Basically, if you hit '?' you'll see
a very shortened list of commands (the commands that are applicable to the
lab vs. the entire list). It makes it too easy to figure out what you need
to use. It's okay for the price, but if you can afford real routers or rack
time, I'd go that route instead.

thanks,
-Brad Ellis

RE: Cisco Interactive Mentor [7:30344]

2001-12-29 Thread Nick S.

I think you can use it do stuff like VOIP(use the CIM for VOIP), which
eventhough has been rated as BASIC, would cover pretty much most of the
stuff that we can expect to see in the labs. Of course, as mentioned
elsewhere, Voice (VoFR, VoATM, VoIP etc) is an evolving topic, and the
weightage will indeed increase with time.

The other ones(IP ROUTING etc.), from what I have heard, cover pretty much
basic CCNP stuff (even less).

I tried the online ones that are free from Cisco and they're pretty good for
the basic and intermediate stuff.

There are only a few that are free though and you need to have avalid login.

RE: Cisco Interactive Mentor [7:30344]

2001-12-28 Thread Mark Odette II

Junovtv-
I invested in the CIM (all 6-7 modules), and have used the LAN Switching CIM
out of it all while I was preparing for the Switching exam. It works great,
except one draw back. It doesn't cover MLS. It goes over everything else
that are lined up as the objectives for the exam, with the exception of MLS.

I also went thru the Access ISDN module, and that was a nice refresher for
ISDN, but wished it had of done config scenarios related to FR and DDR
Backup. In fact, if I remember, it really didn't go over DDR Backup
scenarios at all in LAB sim. It just covered it in lecture.

For the rest of them, I've not used any of them, but I bet they are just as
useful. I hear that the Basic VoIP module is lame in comparison to what
Global Knowledge teaches, but I'll have to go through it and verify that
opinion for myself. I've attended the VoIP/FR/ATM course that GK teaches,
and it was pretty well rounded... just didn't get to experience the Call
Manager system with the VoX pods. :(
