Don't really follow what your saying but I'll try to clarify what I meant. Sounds like you basically hve a hub and spoke. Enable a routing protocol and redistribute default from the central site to the remotes. At the remotes add a floating static default, a static default route followed with a metric of like 200, as you interesting packet to initiate the backup. This way even though your ethernet interface is up the loss of the dynamic default route will trigger the backup link.
